Format for OnRez thumbnail?

I gather that for your listing in OnRez to be illustrated you upload the thumbnail intended for the vend AND site listing to second life and add it to your box.

I never upload jpegs or gifs to SL, but is that the common practice?

It would also be nice to know which format is taking forever to load in so many vendors so i can avoid that pitfall. Maybe there's a connection.

Thanks for your advice

Your in-world vendor isn't necessarily going to be seen by anybody in-world. It's just a gadget that holds all the items you sell via the website, and delivers to the customer at point of sale. The thumbs and pictures you would upload to the onrez website to illustrate your product there.

That being said, the more common format people upload is targa (tga) but they all get converted to jpg anyway, so I dont' know that any format is going to have better or worse download/render performance than another. It's more the size of the texture that matters there. (don't upload a 1024x1024 when a 128x128 will do)

Thanks re format.

If that's the case about vendors, does that mean they also behave like the black box? I got the impression from their site that you uploaded to the box, the stuff is listed in your account, and you can select what to appear in a given vendor for display.

Theyre not very clear about things like how does one associate an uploaded texture with an uploaded object.

You would drag the *products* you want to sell from your inventory into the contents of your vendor. Those items' name/description would be sent from the vendor to your account on the website, where you organize it, associating pictures with products, etc. There would be no way to move a texture from an in-world item to an external website. You would need to upload those to the website itself.

Ok.. I'm looking at the onrez help/support area.. they have a couple options..

The simple one is to use a drop box (like the black box) to store your items for sale.. still, in order for pictures to be associated with product on the website, you'd upload them to the website. You also want to upload them inworld and copy them to your drop box. Then back on the website, associate those textures with the various items. This allows other in world searchable kiosks to display your items properly.

You can place one of these kiosks in your store location if you have one, but it is not necessary if all you want to do is sell from the website. For that, all you need is a drop box containing your products.

The purpose of uploading the textures in-world and placing them in your drop box is so that other *in world* vendor kiosks can display the textures for your product.
