Everything Gone

So I get up tonight to go to my computer to check my account. I logged on to see everyone of my items friends...EVERYTHING was gone and I was stuck in some ugly default avatar. Please someone tell me this is a glitch and everything is going to come back... I didn't have this account for almost two years to have something like this happen.

IF A LINDEN IS READING PLEASE HELP.

Sorry to hear about that, Arch. You should give support a call and see if they can fix you up or at least find out where your stuff went. If somebody hacked you and transfered all your goodies to somebody else, they may have a record of that. They probably won't tell you who it was but they'll know and be able to flag them.

Somebody in the forums here had an account hacked a couple weeks ago and a lot of US$ stolen from that account. Not sure what the final outcome was but, last I heard, there was a Linden in the forums saying that they were trying to help.

This is not a remotely funny situation. Please give LL a chance to fix it. I would be very interested to see how they resolve this or how they respond given that it could happen to any of us.

Hmmm.... and hmmmm again.... I really don't know what I have to make of this statement, it doens't feel good though... of that I am sure.

Hmm.... was your money gone too? If so you can find out rather easily who it was paid to and then report that person. My guess is though that you are suffering from the SL sickness many of us suffer from time to time. Saturday I logged in and only 2 avatars on my friends list showing, one of them had 'waiting' in place of the person's name... and in reality my friends list has 2 dozen people in it. I logged in later that day and my friends list was back to normal. Same goes for inventory. One odd night I had all of my folders however when expanding them none of the items inside were listed. A day went by and everything was there as it had been previously. Your ugly default avatar was Ruth and that too happens to me from time to time. Sometimes I appear as Ruth to others when I still look fine to me while other times I see myself as Ruth and others say I look like the normal me. You just must have gotten them all at once.

Check your transaction page on the website, not only will it show you if Lindens were transferred to another account, it will show if objects were sent as a gift to another account.

First of all forget about Linden responding to help you out, it won't happen. Same thing happened to me. I cleared my cache and came back as a female newbie. Did not get any type of help from Linden although I wrote and called them several times.

After a few days of this I finally got myself back to normal with the help of no one. I imagine the same will happen to you.

This seems odd. If I was going to hack an account and change all the info, I would also go and change the password. I am just saying. Plus, was all the no trans stuff gone, it seems that he is saying it was.

As for being Ruthed, it happens and there isn't much that can be done. You can usually fix this by just going to edit appearances and not saving changes. Or worse case, hopefully you had a back up of you "look."

LL will help you get things back if someone hacks your account. I know someone that had a lot of L$ stolen from them, in the end they got it all back. It just sometimes takes a little bit to get the situation fully resolved.

Isn't there an email step in the password change process?

Based on what his profile got changed to, this sounded more malicious than greedy. No-transfer stuff can still be deleted & purged..

Can't speak to US law, but in the UK hacking someone's account - whether or not any loss occurs - is a criminal offence. The ISP is required by law to provide the appropriate data to the investigating officers - assuming the police are able to take the case up of course.... resources, resources......

All instances of account jacking, that happened close to me, were the result of former friends or partners to whom they had given their passwords to. They didn't think to change their passwords after the relationship turned sour. The ex logged in and dumped all their stuff.

That may not be the case here, but I have seen it happen before.

It is usually never a good idea to share your password.
