Hi there, I am a newb but have bought a 1/4 SIM and am busily decorating it. Problem is my friend and I want to have joint ownership, with both having all the owner rights and permissions. I have tried to work out what to do and so far have set up a group with herself and I in it. But now what? I think i have to get the group to "own" the sim .... is that right? and, if so, how do i do this? a link with step by step newb-ish instructions it would be a great help! also, when we do get this sorted out (joint ownership) I gather she will be able to decorate in houses I buy and visa versa? Is this also correct? thanks in advance! Carmsie

You would need to next deed the land to the group. BEWARE!!!! Adding someone else as owner of the group gives them all the abilities, including selling the land out from underneath the group, etc. You cannot remove them from being owner once you promote them, and only they can remove theirself from the position or the group.
If you are merely trying to give them certain abilities, then create a new position within the group and tailor the permissions you want them to have. This can all be done in the group preferences.

When you deed the land to the group, be sure to check the box for Owner Makes Contribution With Deed. (or however it's worded) That will keep you from being double billed for the tier. Like Kenbro said, don't set the other person as an owner of the group, just make a new role that has all the abilities that you want them to have.

And also make another alt and add them to the group as an owner. That way your group won't get deleted if the other person decides to leave.

I don't want to confuse things for the OP, but am just wondering about this.....this is for mainland only, not estates, right? About being double billed for tier/owner makes contribution.

The OP may also wish to read the stickie above: Step-by-step, how to transfer land. I second those who said don't make your friend an owner of the group, just give the abilities you need to give. Make an alt and make the alt a co-owner of your land. As an added benefit, when you deed your land to the group, you'll get a bonus 10% you can buy without increasing your tier.
SL Land Answers is a group you may also wish to look up. They have many knowledgable memebers who may be able to help with the process, which can be tricky.

About being double billed for tier/owner makes contribution. A tenant on one of my private islands was billed for her parcel. The only thing I could think of was that she'd deeded the land and ticked the owner makes contribution box, it simply shouldn't be an option on estate.

I want to echo Kembro's warning. My advise is always to never go into an equal partnership with someone else. Far too many end in animosity and there's no telling what the other person will do in those circumsatnces. I haven't experienced it myself but I've come across it with friends a number of times.

Could only find one old unloved jira on the subject, maybe there's another in there somewhere? *ETA* no, I didn't...that was only sort of related.

Getting off topic, but I have to cast a dissenting vote on this subject. I carefully worked out an agreement with my partner and we documented it in a notecard, with all of the possible scenarios considered. If either of us were to violate those terms then I think we'd both be very disappointed with ourselves. Maybe I'm just lucky.

Well, for estate land it doesn't matter so much since they don't have a value so they're not worth selling.
Worst case scenario is that your partner deletes all your prims but you can hardly achieve anything together if you don't give them the ability to return objects.
