The creator of the MDC ring and the MDC2 has managed to get his scripts blacklisted. This means that anyone owning an MDC2 ring will find it is now useless.

Just an FYI.

A weapon HUD/Armband that allowed you to do horrific things to your friends (and most commonly, your foes).

Sounds like a good thing to me. One less opportunity for the low-end griefer to buy a weapon and go nuts. I prefer griefers to have to work at being asses, rather than just buying harassment tools ingame and clicking the supplied hud. Too easy! :)

What does it mean to be blacklisted? In an SL sense, I mean.

Seriously, how does the product become "useless"? Do the scripts stop working or something?

When the scripts get blacklisted, they're all deleted at server level. Which means that all the scripts in the objects belonging to that owner, grid wide, delete.

This happens to weapons scripts and other content occasionally. Generally speaking, the more effective something is as a griefer tool, the more likely it is to get wiped. Also, sometimes they just wipe all content created by a resident, if that resident has been doing wholesale copyright infringement or is a supplier of choice to griefers. That sometimes doesn't work out so well--as some will recall from the mess they made wiping one creator's legitimate copy of the open source MLP scripts that was incorporated in a lot of content by other creators.

Couldn't they just re-upload the scripts if they had saved the code? Then offer them for free to all that own the now "useless" weapons? Or, if they were angry enough, post them online for any griefer to use?

I would, if I was inclined to provide griefer tools (which, I'm not).

However, it might make sense to just create the scripts from saved text file on the local machine; then sell it as an upgrade to the poor, sappy griefers.

Most of his stuff had been written by his friends anyway. The scripts are still out there, just that the ones in the MDC2 will no longer work.

I wonder why they'd blacklist something like that though. Almost everyone I know was pretty dependent on MDCII.

Were it not for that MLP sort of situation...

Would it be fun if rather than deleteing the scripts in 100% grifer stuff, they replaced them with scripts that gave "public service" announcements when a griefer tried to use them?

I know why he got his stuff blacklisted. But I'm not at liberty to discuss it.

And yet, here you are, going "nyah nyah, I know and I won't tell you" :)

Does that mean that other products which are supposed to interact with it (like ) are defunct as well?
