Someone told me that there are certain types of devices that you can purchase that will detect where someone goes...like a tracker device. Is this true??
The reason I ask is because this same person IM'd me yesterday and told me where I had been the past few days..
Hmmm...

And likely, its something you're wearing they gave to you. That's my thoughts ...

Yes, I did.
Came across that in some spy-geek shop. The bugs are easy enough to find but if you're paranoid you'd have to check your entire inventory for things you didn't purchase.

Do you have to be WEARING the item or have it ATTACHED for it to work? Or will it even detect you if its just sitting in your inventory? Hell, I have lots of friends that have given me items and vice/versa...
/me shifts his eyes to the left, then the right, quickly looks behind him and begins to shudder at the thought... =\

Hell, I have lots of friends that have given me items and vice/versa... Scripts sitting in inventory don't run - they MUST be in-world, either as an attachment or sitting in a prim in a sim somewhere or they're not running. A script that's not in an attachment cannot, in theory, follow your movements if you TP to some other region. There was a hole in this a while ago where scripts could still 'see' you after a TP but that was sorta limited and it was supposedly fixed several months ago.

She indicated it was a picture of her, she was in a modeling contest and wanted me to vote for her...ugh.
THANK GOD i declined her texture.... but i guess it wouldnt have worked anyway since i wouldnt be wearing her picture on my avy Hahaha...

whew...we need to be careful! I can't tell if you're serious or not, Sylvester.. If you didn't know, only prims can contain scripts. If it doesn't have a box (or a pile of boxes) icon in your inventory window, it cannot be scripted. edit: 2,500th post!

As mentioned, a little while back there was a bug which let somebody track your location for 30 seconds or so after you left the sim. That has been patched now.
Spy scripts need to be running in-world; worn or placed in areas the spy expects you to pass through.
However, with a little creative protocol hacking, you can track anybody online. That is an external program, though, and not a script.

I don't know...All I know it was enough to freak me out just a little bit. Sadly enough, this all came from someone that I would have loved to get to know more...
Im new to SL, so this is why I posted this question. It just seems very odd to me that this could be possible. Thanks everyone for your feedback..Take care =)

/me keeps glancing over her shoulder... The only way I would know of would be to look at the scripts inside the objects you have. That, and reconcile youreself to the concept that there is no such thing as privacy in SL.

Turn on transparancy -- CTL-ALT-T ... and examine yourself. See anything red that doesn't belong? It may be very tiny, so you may have to look close.
Or, just detach all ... remove *ALL* attachments and then put the items back on one at a time. Inspect each item for scripts.
You can get a MystiTool (and probably other devices) which will let you see all scripts running. Find yourself an empty spot on the grid (good luck) where you're by yourself and nothing around you. A freshly purchased sim that hasn't been built upon yet is perfect. Then you can use the MystiTool to view all scripts running. Any of them not yours?

Thanks everyone for your feedback..Take care =) Very little of what you do online, SL or not, is really private. That's just the nature of the beast. Don't worry about it too much, Aisley. Just keep it in mind that there isn't much privacy in SL then go back to having fun.

From: Brann Georgia Yes, I did.
Came across that in some spy-geek shop. The bugs are easy enough to find but if you're paranoid you'd have to check your entire inventory for things you didn't purchase. Items in our inventory cannot track you, the scripts won't work until the item is rezzed or worn. So gifts that you wear are the most suspect. There used to be an exploit that allowed your movement when you teleport from sim to sim to be tracked, but I'm pretty sure LL closed that exploit some time ago. It is easy to script an object that will tell you if someone is logged on, but it will not tell you where they are located. Check your friends list. If someone is on your Friends list, and you have the option checked, they can tell where you are via the map, but you have to turn that option on, and you can also turn it off.
