Ever wanted to just do it?
From what I've read of most folks here, my inventory wouldn't compare. I have maybe 7500 items and I realize that this is not actually a lot, but I'm sick of the most of it. I have a lot of items that I picked up in my newbie days. A lot of clothes that I just don't wear and a lot of attempted builds just sitting unorganized in my inventory. I've bought a lot of C R A P. I'm feeling the urge to just delete it all to hell...except for those few items that I absolutely want to keep, like my mysti tool and the clothes I've marked favo's.
Will this pass? Who's done this and regretted it?

I've done it and never missed a single item. But I do look at what I'm about to delete. If it really is just junk or just something taking up space and you really will never use it. Get rid of it.

at > 40k items, I've considered it.. a lot of the freebie scripts and vehicles I picked up, I will NEVER use. aside from the Halcyon HC-1 and a few scripts here and there.
I just never have the time to sit down and sort through it all.

I have to "weed" my inventory every month or two. One trick... Things you think you want to delete, but that you're not sure? Put them in a box, and date the box. If you don't go back and look for the things in a month or so, delete the box. But while you're seeig if you can 'live without it', that box only takes up one inventory slot.

I did it too, I didn't learn to sort my inventory until I had been in world for about 3 or 4 months so it was a disaster. About 10k of the items I had were freebies from those monstrous freebie boxes with boxes within boxes of dozens of items. I put them all in a folder named "Freebies - need to sort". Never sorted, and about 2 months later I just right clicked and deleted all of it. It felt great to watch the inventory go down 10k and I've never missed a thing.

I know I've dumped some things from my inventory (freebie boxes, etc) and never bothered to look back -- but I have still 25k items in there -- and a lot of them I want to see what they are first. Gonna take a long, long time to sort.
DUmp it all and start over? Tempting -- but I kinda like a lot of the stuff I got.

Hey that's actually a great idea....and also i could drop some transfer clothes on a newbie.
Still, I have this awful urge to just delete entire folders without even looking inside. Be done with it! Start over, now that I'm beyond newbie and know what's important and how to actually organize things. Also, I need to learn to stop taking inventory offers so obligatorily. (lol is that a word or a moxism?)

That way- the stuff would still be there should yo ever want it back.

My inventory is only 5k and I would like to keep it that way. So I do regularly purge from time to time. And I do throw away - or at least pack up into prims - things that I don't expect to use.

I've been clearing out a lot of the freebie stuff - mostly the stuff that I could easily go get again if I really want it. I also clear out clothes a lot - if they are transferable, they go into my 'give away' folder else they get deleted. I end up with a lot of uploaded edited pictures and I've started consolidating those onto notecards. The stuff I have a hard time clearing out are furniture and /or decorating type items that are group gifts or treasure hunt prizes - they are not the run of the mill generic freebies and you never know when I might decide that I want to use them. And my inventory is still sitting at > 18k and growing -- Sigh.......

Ive been stoically trying to organise my stuff for a few months...my partner bought me the *bright storage boxes* and apart from looking pretty cool and taking only 1 prim up..they are sooo handy. You can load them up with stuff, for example ive got one for just christmas things, and when you touch the box it shows you in lists whats in it, so you can retrieve or delete . Ive made a few up now for furnishings for the rentals, seasonal (halloween etc) and stuff ill prolly delete in a few months... It wasnt overly expensive either...but then...i LOVE gadgets

I'll go out, spend L$5000 on stuff, then delete a bunch of stuff from Inventory that I haven't used in months and can't foresee ever needing. So far am keeping it under 5500 items.

I'm sufficiently OCD that I've always kept my inventory under control, and I've been pretty ruthless and unsentimental about deleting things or storing them away. For a year and a half, I managed to keep my inventory count under 6k. Unfortunately, that discipline went to hell a few weeks ago when I started 7Seas Fishing. Now I've topped 6k but can't bring myself to delete any fishes. After all, I need to color coordinate them with my outfits.

I keep mine under 9k, instead of deleting, find some noobs and give it away.

Mine is just over 4K. When I buy a bunch of new stuff, I throw out stuff that I don't want anymore. I'm pretty organized, with a few "junk-drawer" folders mixed in. I would never consider junking the whole thing.
