My friend can't get his voice working, he said it worked yesterday, but nothing today. He's running xp and using Second Life 1.23.4 (12390  Jun 11 2009 15:16:56 (Second Life Release). He uninstalled and reinstalled, tried different sims but nothing, any ideas? Thanks  |

Check his firewall settings, for one thing.
Also, SL Voice supposedly runs on a different company server, so its possible they're having some issues somewhere along the line.

If he has used either a webcam or Skype right before his voice went wonky, have him make a Skype test call, then login to SL and check to see if his voice setup is broadcasting green for the mic.

Skype works fine. No he can't hear voice at all, He doesn't see anyone on active speakers, I see him but no green dot. His voice button is grayed out. He has voice enabled, set up device for default, he never gets a green level sound level bar. |

There are several possible reasons and/or solutions.
Start by looking in the audio settings (through the control panel) and see what devices are being used. Log in to sl and make sure they are set the same in the device settings on the voice chat tab. if that doesn't work more information on what type of mic/headset he is using would make it easier to help as i've seen issues with usb headsets that don't seem to happen with mini-plug headsets. Plugging a mini-plug headset in the front audio port has been an issue for several people that had this problem. Feel free to IM me inworld if they need more help.

I'll venture a guess it's not an SL problem. Perhaps he has his default mic set incorrectly, but Skype works because it's explicitly configured for a certain input device. Check the audio settings and try changing the device from "default" to whatever he's using.

No Voice

I had the same problem my voice stopped working when I downloaded the new viewer. When I checked on the edit button when I wasn't logged in I could see the green lights but as soon as I logged in I only had the slider and no lights.
I uninstalled my mic and re-installed it and that worked for me.
