question about photos

Hi all

this question I guess is related to SL since a lot of folks take pics and upload to different sites for sharing.

my question is, what are the different sites that you can upload pictures to (both from SL and from your computer/camera) that do not charge.
and that you can share those pictures with other people either via password, or public access, which will allow the other people to download the pic if they want it.

I think flicker? or is it flickr? does this, what are other?

http://www.flickr.com/ is the most common used one and it's free.

Rha Flickr, there's a healthy SL community, we have groups there to share SL photos and you can mark them as private too.

I have a free account at flicker and a paid at photobucket, I love th eease of use for photobucket.........

flicker you can only have 200 images for the free, then its like 30.00 or so??

I forget what photobucket is, I just get billed and paid yearly.. and its cheaper than that I believe...

Photobucket is consistant in NOT allowing to risky content, as a matter of fact they pulled a little camel toes cartoon I had.... ; ( SO I doubt you could upload your SL porn photos (if you're into it)

Snapzilla also works, and you can also easily email pics to there directly from in-world. http://www.slpics.com/

Also if you have a wordpress blog on http://www.wordpress.com you get a big chunk of pic hosting there too. However, posting to wordpress from within SL is kind of problematic. Its possible, using a third-party site like posterous.com or ping.fm.

I use photobucket for free, personally. It can share images, gives you copiable text sections for different code types for linking, and I believe you can password protect albums, as well, though I never have.

Yes you can, Kiera. I have password protected albums for personal and RL pics in my Photobucket.

Not sure about that, Yahoo bought Flickr, it looks like people can have more than 200 pics.

LOL, Photobucket pulled a photo I took of a guy I saw dancing in silks. He amused me, it was Valentine's Day and he looked so freaking funny in the outfit, shimmying away all alone, I just had to grab a couple of shots. One they allowed, the other for some reason they banned.

I have a Pro Account with Flickr, pay $30 a year for unlimited uploads. Can post anything I care to, although they will "gray" out some content, but anyone can just click on it to allow access.

Also, I feel it's worth mentioning, a free account has a limit of 1Gb, and at 104 photos it's only showing me as having used 1% of this. Also, images are limited to 1MB, and monthly traffic is limited to 25 GB, which only really matters if you're hosting images for a frequently used website or something similar, in my opinion. For personal use, it's plenty of bandwidth.

Also, photobucket has slideshow capability, which is limited to 50 photos in a free account, and video upload, limited to 5 minutes on a free account.

Non-free accounts increase all of these substantially, and have more features, as well.

A related question....do you know of any of these sites that will allow a pdf file to be saved and then accessed? Thanks!

I don't know of any like Photobucket and Flickr that do, at least not for free (That is, not file hosting site that allows albums, previews, auto-copy links, etc, etc)

However, if you just need someplace to upload your PDFs to share, http://freepdfhosting.com can do just that, just make a free account and you're started.

Google's Picasa is also another option. I use Flickr and Snapzilla for now. Flickr will only allow you to show 200 pics/video at a time if you are free. They won't delete anything, but only the most recent 200 will appear.

flickr has an official policy that you can't embed images hosted by them unless it contains a link back to the flickr site (something that don't work here) photobucket doesn't.

ty kiera i will check it out! i need to add some things to a RL blog but they are pdf files and i cant mod them. maybe this will work!
