Can anyone point me to a viable Buddhist sangha in SL? Preferably Theravadan?

Thanks, clever people!

I wish I knew! I'm sure they're out there.

I noticed there is a lot of Buddhist groups but none that I joined in my early days ever had events or anything.
And the only active discussion group or use to be that had regular events not sure if still exist was Skeptical Buddhism.
I always met to check it out but never really followed through.
I looked but never really found what I was looking for.
I am not familiar with the tradition you're speaking of though.
I am different sec we don't really have similar words but not really that active any more after 20 years but some things still hold true for my spirituality.

Um, well, I was referring to the Theravada school rather than a specific sect, simply because I wanted to stress "viable". I think the people are more important than the sect.

But I also have to say that the Tibetan stuff doesn't really resonate in me. Thich Nhat Hanh is more my speed. :) /me shrugs.

The Skeptical Buddhist group has been a good find for me but I haven't been able to attend a discussion in quite some time. The formal presentations done by Starsitter Quality are based on Stephen Batchelor's "Buddhism Without Beliefs" with an emphasis on practical application of the philosophy. To my thinking this fits well with the more reason-based aspects of Theravada. I don't know of any true monk-led Theravada sanghas but then I haven't looked for them :) The group discussions can be very good; there are many sincere practitioners who attend. Sometimes the talk strays onto more Mahayana or even martial arts tangents, but Starsitter has created a real gem of a place where open discussion and exchange of ideas is nurtured.

Thanks! I'll check them out! As I said, the Tibetans don't resonate, but I don't mind a touch of Mahayana. The only drawback there is, if I do too much Zen, I tend to get going in circles so fast I disappear up my own backside.

/me smiles.
