lost my fish tank

well I got my house sorted finally and now started to put stuff in it my partner has placed stuff with no prob
last night I purchased a wall fish tank plasedd it edited it moved it god I was real pleaded with what I was doing after I finished, I pressed the x on the edit menu stood back to admire and all of a sudden it disappeared saying its been auto restored into my inv so I go looking for it and no where to be found. Looking at the chat box it said because of a tilley fashion its been sent back to the sim?????
What does that mean, and how do I find it again.
Also how do I place it again without looking it

Check your lost and found folder. If it is not there, try clearing your cache and relogging in.

thanks for the quick reply, the first time it happened I did find it there but now its gone completely

Is there anything in your lost and found? perhaps you did not have the correct group to rez items and it. along with other things where returned to you. Look for an item in your inventory that has an icon that looks as if it were allot of little boxes. It is probably in there.

I had this happen once. The missing item appeared in my inventory the next day. Weird.

once it happens should be a big enough clue that its not safe to try again. if your ever having problems in SL, just wait a day and retry then.

Some stange stuff going on, I moved a HUD to a new folder, tried to rez it in world and it dissapeared completely about 8 hours later it was back in the original folder. Along with a few other items I moved elsewhere, some sort of sim rollback I suspect.

It means that the thing 'failed to rez in a timely manner' so it returned it to your inventory. Or supposedly returned it, that is. I've lost things to it. One time, I lost a dance chimera.. bought a new one, tricked the new one out and three months later the old one reappeared in its folder with the new one. Seriously, three months. I never took it off, it was just 'gone' and three months later, it was back. I gave it to a friend after removing a non-transfer dance and told her to nail it down.

SL has the wonkiest asset system ever for losing things.

lol so I could end up with 2 then as I bought another one and lost that as well LOL I will look tonight and hope its there

i wish you would have waited before buying another one. if it's no copy, maybe they'll buy the duplicate back from you.

it might be ghosted and require a sim restart to have it returned. sounds like your sim is misbehaving.

Also, if you have yourself in Busy mode when it returns, it will sometimes go into your Trash - sort of like a declined inventory offer - so check there.

OH! and if it is coalated with something else, it might be in your lost and found or trash, inside a cube that looks like a bunch of little cubes stacked together. you'd have to rez the entire box to see what's inside.

Oh, yes -- and in this case, in can be named as any of the individual items that got clumped together. That did happen to me once when SL had one of those hiccups and half my house furniture got returned to me.

right not there so got another 1 and tried it and it again said this

whats parcel auto return mean its there but it goes after ive edited it, is this how you move an object?? right click and edit?? or is there another way

What this usually means is that you need to activate the Group tag for that land before rezzing objects - the land is apparently set to auto-return after a certain amount of time. And in this case, the item or group of items should be in your lost & found folder. And the auto-return would happen whether or not you actually Edited the item after rezzing it.
