I am puzzled that I can't log in, Advice please?

Hi! Thank you for reading this.

I have never asked for help logging in, but today is different.

I never seed this b4.

It pauses in loading to say:

"Waiting for region handshake"

Then I get a screen saying it can't connect. Might be server, or my connection, etc. and gives me option of teleport, help or leave.

The help button is how I got here.

OK!

My connection is working perfect!

I talked to my freind in RL who plays sl too and she has the SAME PROBLEM RIGHT NOW!

I was on this morning and it worked fine. I even bought Lindens with almost no trouble. Just a lag issue. And bouught about 6,000 in stuff today shopping and everything transferred and placed for me no problems.

I was chatting with friendss when it just CRASHED INSTANTLY!

GONE! YIKES!!!!!

It sent a automatic crash log, then I rebooted and tried to log in. That was hours ago.

I read the blog and it does NOT say this should be happening.

I set it up for different regions and sims to log in and the same thing happens. The same failure I mean.

I try the teleport button option and nothing happens.

I see that people on line has increased while all this has heppened, to 60,000 in world... so I know the grid is working.

Is there ANYTHING I can do?????

I need my SL FIX!!!!!!!!!

I've been gettin' dat f'r days now at th' borin place. I jes assumed it was a change in the firewall.

That's a new one for me. I have never seen the teleport option.

You said you have rebooted, but have you tried restarting your router/cable modem and every thig else along that chain? It really sounds liike some sort of connection problem. Yes, you are getting to the internet just fine but the pipes leading to the SL servers are getting crossed somewhere.

Also, from the download page, you can get the Release Candidate version (1.20) or the standard version (1.19). Which ever one you are using, try downloading and using the other. You can have both on your computer at the same time with no problems. Many times if I have issues with one, the other will run flawlessly ... or as flawless as SL ever gets

Yosef, my brother has the router stuff for our FIOS system in his bedroom and NO ONE IN OUR FAMILY is allowed to enter or touch anything, under pain of excrutiating death.

I do anyway, but as his little sister I've had years of practice snooping in his stuff.

I am the one who years ago found and turned into my folks his copy of Playboy, only to discover he had stolen it from our dad in the first place! ROFL

College has, if anything, made me even more annoying, at least according to him!

Anyway, all joking asside, I don't know ANYTHING about the computer stuff. He is our resident techie and I'll have to wait for him to get off work to try that.

I'll ask him.

I looked more at the teleport thing, and it gives you the option only of teleporting home. Which is where I am.

I got today off totally unplanned, and I could have played in SL all day.

I just checked and still nothing.

I made a problem report a long time ago. There's no acknowledgment in my email.

I have never filed one before. Do they actually read those things?

I heard they don't.

I wanna play, and work on my store and stuff. My entire main store (with the HIGHEST RENT) is in a shambles cause i am remodeling it...

if you can't break in and reboot the FiOS router (which I think is probably what needs doing), then you could try connecting to a different region by typing in it's name on the login screen. on the off-chance that it's specific to routing for your home region sim. (If you don't have a place to type in the region name on the login screen, may need to do Edit / Preferences / General tab / Show Start Location on Login Screen.)

[Edit: sorry, I see on re-re-reading the OP, that's already been tried. Dunno anything else to try, short of bouncing that router.]

I'm a bit over my head here, but I'm chiming in because this exact same thing happens to me at some hotels. The remedy is to ask the hotel's ISP to give me a static IP address and, sometimes, open certain ports that SL needs. (Not all hotel ISP's are willing to do that.)

I'm not entirely certain what this means but I post it here in case it is of some help.

Paul reset everything and my connection failed completely.

sigh

Turns out somethung inside MY computer is failing! We just connected MY FIOS connection to my mom's computer, and as you can see I am back online HERE at least. That means it's MY system, NOT SL.

And her computer is too old and small to run SL.

I hope I figure this out before my quarter sim and all my stores vanish!

I pay all my rents and tiers way in advance, thank goodness. whew

BUT... not forever!

I guess the answer MAY be a new computer!

My old mother board has been failing, and the guy at the computer store it was doomed! My voice stopped working late last year, and he said then I needed a new one.

Paul said we can build a new one just for SL pretty cheap... so now i guess I'm racing the clock!

One thing for sure: It will have a much newer graphics card for the new viewer! And my VOICE will work again.
