You don't remove the skin and shape. Just wear a different skin and shape.

All of the original avatars available at startup (including the one you wore to begin with) can be found in the library section of your inventory. If you can recall what it looked like (clothes, hair etc) then someone could probably tell you within a few seconds which exact one you need to put on.
Edit: Here are the originals: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Default_Avatar_Designers _____________________

Nobody tells you these things when you're starting out... I was afraid for the longest time I'd 'lose' my original look if I played around with skins and shapes...
My advice in the future once you've got a look you like is to make a folder and put in copies of your current shape, skin, eyes, maybe even hair and a pair of pants and a shirt. Name it *base Jamey or *Jamey 5/2009 or something. Then if you put on something that changes your look, you can always revert back by right-clicking that folder and choosing 'Replace Outfit'. (The asterisk makes it stay at the top of the list of folders.) Good luck, and welcome to SL! _____________________

P.S... you don't want to see what an avatar looks like without its skin.

I suppose im out of luck if i want my orginal back? And if thats the case, which city can i find free avatars at? Anything you took will stay in your inventory until you click it, choose delete and then also purge it in the trash can. There are 'freebie shops' and 'freebie malls' but you can often find higher-quality freebies at the top quality stores in Second Life. Most will offer an ongoing freebie as well as sometimes host hunts, lucky chairs (you'd sit in one to win the prize if the initial on the chair was J or a question mark) and promotional freebies. This includes skin and shape shops. Some places also offer special group only gifts, for that you would need to join the in-store group. Or sometimes, subscribe to their promotion newslist. Both mean you would basically get announcements in Second Life about what is new in their store. To find freebie places in SL, just type freebie in search and you will find plenty of places. Make sure when you click "buy" on an item, that it says 0 (that's how much you pay) or sometimes $1. That would take 1 Linden from your SL 'bank account' of Lindens (look top right in your viewer, you will see $L and a number, that's how much you have). $1L is often considered 'free' too, although technically that's a "dollarbie" not a "freebie." You can get Lindens various ways. The easiest, quickest way is to just buy them with real money here at the secondlife.com website. OH and P.S., go into edit/appearance (by clicking on your avatar), click Shape in there and click Save As at the bottom. Name your shape something you will remember, so you can find it later. Hit 'save'. If you made a shape and didn't save the shape then it WILL be gone next time you switch it out for a new one. Unless you save and name it. (If you did not make the shape, just remember what name it has now. If it's modifyable you can rename an already-saved shape like one you were given or one you bought, by right clicking its name in Inventory and choosing 'rename'. Just like renaming an icon or folder in your computer.) Good luck. |

Actual un-retouched snapshot of an avatar "without their skin": It's 'Cousin It's' rebel blacksheep Cousin 'It Isn't'~!!!!! Actually...to the OP.....your original shape & skin are in your librabry still....they didn't go anywhere. Shape & skin are the two very very basic componants of your look and you cannot take them 'off'.....you can only replace them or if they are modifiable....use the sliders in 'edit appearance' to adjust them. But you can't actually strip your avatar down to skelital basics. So....ignore Cousin It there.....lol that was a camera trick. Also....there's all kinds of great places to grab new free avatar goodies to adjust your look. Gnube shop is great....Free Dove....Sarah Nerds freebie warehouse.....but the bottom line there's soooooooo many things you can do to adjust the look of your avatar, that it's probably a safe bet if you stick around for a while.....you wont look anything like your original guy by the time you've become a seasoned resident. Also....trick to keep in mind.....if you are unsure about the names of things you're wearing... open your inventory...type WORN at the top.....and your inventory will filter tings and only show you items are WORN by your avatar. You'll notice the word worn in bold lettering next to those things. This helps a lot when ya can't remember what was called what....it can get overwhelming easily. ![]() _____________________

I suppose im out of luck if i want my orginal back? And if thats the case, which city can i find free avatars at? Not at all. You only replaced your original skin and shape. Unless you actually took the trouble to delete them and then empty your trash, they should still be somewhere in your inventory. |

FYI - The pic I posted earlier was the result of a glitch in a Release Candidate SL client. Changing from one appearance to another sometimes would actually make all or part of your avatar skin invisible.

I suspect the original avatar skin and shape you had will already be in your part of your inventory... when I wear Library body parts they get copied to my Clothing folder.
