i'll finally be able to do voice chat stuff tonight (getting a decent headset), but am wondering, is there a way to voice im?
it might not be called that, but is there basically a way to literally talk/voice someone in a completely different sim?

You can IM in voice. When you click on someone in your friends list, you can hit the IM button and then click the call button at the top of the window. That should connect you, provided the person at the other end accepts.

Talking to an Individual

In general, if you're using IM to talk to someone and they have voice enabled, you can click Call to initiate a direct voice chat session.

To start a voice chat session with a friend:

1. Click the Communicate button at the bottom of the Second Life window.
The Communicate window opens.
2. Click the Contacts tab.
3. Click the name of a friend and click IM/Call.
A separate tab opens in the Communicate window.
4. At the top of the new tab, click Call.

Only if they have headset and have voice enabled...

edit: only the person you IM will hear you.

No, if you call someone via an IM only that person can hear you.

People other than the intended recipient could hear you while you are in a voice IM, if they are in the same room where you are talking from.

Not unless they putyou on RL speakerphone.

There's no known inworld way to eavesdrop on IM vc. Just be sure you start it from within an IM tab and not the general chat tab.

Start an IM text chat first and go from there.
