I finally came up with an excuse to have a party! Now I want to pick your brains for ideas. :D

First: Music!
I rent but I can set the media streams for my parcel. Is it just as simple as getting the URL from a DJ to get their music playing?

Second: Dancing!
My garden where I'll be throwing the party doesn't really have one big space that would serve as a dance area but I think with a little tweaking I can make it work. Really guests can dance wherever they want! As for dances, any recommendations on good but affordable dance balls? Or should I just load up the freebie one I have with good dances I purchase?

Third: Entertainment!
Apart from music and chatting I personally don't need much else to feel entertained at events I've been to. I'm usually pretty easy that way. Is it generally expected for a host to provide more? I'd be glad to if I knew what it was my guests would most enjoy. Keep in mind that this will be an all ages/all avatars event so PG content is assumed :)

Third: Gifts!
I have at least one simple little gift I will offer to my guests.

Fourth: What I'm Missing!
What am I missing?

Thanks for any ideas you care to share!

A Dj has a stream and he will give you the url,all you need to do is put this URL in the media tab:)

If I were you I'd send a call out to the cartel to borrow some if you can instead of buying. I have some I'd be willing to let you use as well. Slow and fast dances, plus some dance balls.:) A lot of people have their own dances as well.(chims, huddles etc...)

IMO good conversation is the best source of entertainment in SL. A good host will keep the conversation flowing and try to keep everyone involved.:)

Do you build things yourself? Maybe a little something from your own personal stash. Though I don't really think gifts are really needed.

Invitations? (Shameless attempt to get himself invited)

What's the occasion for a party? I didn't know you needed an occasion other than "I wanted to throw a party"

What she said.
And, to reiterate: WOOT and HOWWWLLZZZZ is NOT entertainment, nor a particularly intelligent way to get the party going.

Dancing space? move a few shrubs, ask Crazod and Soji NOT to wear their ginormous AVs, and hope that not everyone brings a dance that has them travelling all over the place. Or just have a 'tiny' party :D

Theme? Is there a theme?

Oooh.. a tiny party.

As Brann said, a theme? Not really necessary, but can be fun.
Also, I'm not too crazy about 'contests' but some do enjoy them.

Depends on when you have it, but I will have a bunch of dance balls available for loan.

I try to greet every guest and make sure that ladies without dates gets a dance with yours truly.

I leave the fun up to the guests. I never thought about having gifts for guests. Madhu gave gifts for her party with great success.

A party? Did I hear party?

As long as you have dancing and music that makes a party. And yes chatting is great too. If you let me know when I can look in my stash for a set or two poseball dance to borrow.

Don't stress too much about it Bohdi, although I did completely when I though mine last time. I don't think a theme or gifts are needed unless you enjoy that kind of thing. Just your good company and that of your friends is all that is important. Like others said, just try and move some things out of the way to accommodate the dancing a bit if space is an issue. You already have the good conversation thing down pretty well so it should be a breeze. I hope it's a day I can be there!

Double check with the DJ. There are some good DJs who only work at clubs that have their own stream.

It is possible to rent a stream by the hour or day, if your DJ doesn't have a stream.

Thanks for the answers and ideas. The party itself won't be themed, but the garden definitely is. However, I'd only offer it as a chance to play dressup rather than any sort of requirement--although it will influence the music, most probably. The gifts are things of my own creation, which I know I'd love most from other friends. Now the big question is whether I can pull this together in a short time and whether I actually need to. :D

Thanks again!

PS: I didn't mention that my quay abuts a public waterway so watercraft of any sort should be rezable and usable, though the available space is probably only a few sims.
