I think you need to get in touch with support to make the request. I don't think they're able to restore all accounts, but in the cases they are, I believe they charge a US$9.95 fee.

oh rats you bet me to it..........

My account was cancelled and I'd like to reactivate it. What should I do?

Not all accounts can be restored. What you should do is contact Support. If we are able to restore your account, then inventory and/or L$ previously associated with your account may be unrecoverable depending on how long the account was closed. If your account can be reactivated it will incur a US$9.95 reactivation fee.

I just found the following from the KB:

"7. If you choose to reactivate a cancelled account, you may be charged a fee.

At the end of a subscription period or other account cancellation by you, your cancelled account will become dormant for 60 days. If during that time you want to reopen your account, you will be able to return to your My Account page and click the "re-activate" button at which time you will be prompted to review billing details to confirm that the plan you want is selected and that your credit card or other payment method is still valid. Linden Lab may require a reactivation fee in the event Linden Lab determines, in its sole discretion, that activation and reactivation of an account is being conducted in a manner designed to evade compliance with this Agreement or other Linden Lab policies and procedures. If, for any reason, your credit card or other payment method cannot be charged or payment is withheld, your account will become dormant as if you had cancelled it. Notwithstanding the foregoing, Linden Lab is not obligated to reactivate or retain any cancelled account, and any effort to do so is at Linden Lab's sole discretion."

another little information

Once logged in, find the Cancel link on the right. Your account will remain open until your billing review date, as account maintenance fees are paid in advance.

Basic accounts can remain active (without owning land) with no recurring monthly fees. Premium accounts can remove any landholdings and downgrade to Basic instead of cancelling.

If you want to hang onto your name in case you want to come back, but don't want to pay the US$9/95 reactivation fee, simply downgrade to a Basic account.
