I bought some mainland land in an area that shows on the map as a sort of gray color. When I go to my land, it is sometimes green and sometimes gray, as are the adjoining parcels. Is this some kind of viewer artifact?
How can I control what color appears? I'd like to terraform the place, but the gray gives no perspective to speak of and is very disorienting.
It's not easy being gray...

The region options (for its owner) allow 4 ground textures to be set, and an elevation at which each one is used Try raising or lowering the land, I predict it will change depending on its elevation

You can look to see what textures are being used and what the height levels are in, let me see... I think it's World - Region/Estate - Ground Textures.
If you are seeing loading texture not ground texture try clearing your cache.

I didn't know and will certainly try it when I go back in, not that it'd help me much, since I'm high elevation... *sigh* I'd like non-prim grass.

You can LOOK - of course you can't change it, but people may determine if what they see is correct and if terraforming will make things better in their eyes.

Yep, it's mainland, not an estate sim. The color comes back when I log back in, but not any other way. I'm sure anyone who has seen me messing around with the ground level thinks I'm insane. With no change in shade, I have no way of telling what I've done unless I fall in a hole. Actually, I just discovered Terrain Detail on the Advanced Graphics tab of Preferences. Low gives the plain greenish grass, and high gives a pattern similar to a lawn. It seems to be good enough to work with. I just hope it doesn't invoke the Lag Monster on me. My poor little computer is really getting a workout here.

I have the same with my land because it is hard rock - just a gray blob if I have my viewer settings the wrong way. Try setting the detail for ground to high instead of the default low - that helps in my case. I then see my granite in all its glory.
