Group Permissions!!

Hi All

I am the owner of Cain's Castle and have a group named Cain's. The land the castle is on is in my name only, as owner.

What I would like to do is give certain members permission to create objects. I obviously need this permission to be restricted to those members only and not a general rule for all members.

I would like to be able to do these things without deeding my land to the group as this causes to many complications.

One of the main reasons for doing this is to enable some members to have tip jars on the land, so failing the above being possible then can I do this instead.

Thanks in anticipation...Cain.

You simply can't do that without deeding..... if you want group members to have specific rights, it must be group land.

Tip jars, various ways to do that....

Thanks for prompt reply...can you give me a clue as to what type of tip jar would be required........One that pays the member as opposed to me....thanks!!

sorry lol thought I didn't have time to answer the rest before XD

I'm not sure about non-self tipjar.. but a lot of clubs use them so that the employer gets a % of the tips while the dancer or w/e gets the rest... couldn't tell you where to get one like that, sorry =(

Try the tip jar from NDE. It can be set up as group only and I think it can notecard configured so only certain people can log into it. I have it and it is also used in the SIM I rp in, but I haven't set one up in a while, so not totally sure about the access list.

Actually, most group rights will work by simply setting the land to the group. I'm pretty sure the ability to build is in this category. To do it:
(1) SET the land to group (you don't have to DEED it).
(2) In the About Land window, set the land to allow Group Build.
(3) In the Group window, turn on the build permission for the role your friends belong to.

There are a few permissions that require actually DEEDING land to the group... the ability to set a home location is one of these, but I can't remember what the others are.

You can set the land to group without actually deeding and then in your land options set the land to group members only being able to build.

Totally understandable confusion. :)

Much of the official LL documentation does NOT distinguish between group abilities that require full "deeding" from those that work with just "setting". And in some places the documentation is just wrong. :(

Having create objects for group set doesn't mean that only those group members with the proper permission can rez, it means everyone in the group can rez.

In order for group permissions to apply you need to disallow create objects for group (not terribly intuitive) in About Land.

Strange, that is totally not how it worked for me when my land was just set to my group. I originally had my alts with no permissions, but with group build turned on, and the alts could not build. Once I made them special roles that DID have build permissions, they were able to build.

I suppose that could have been a temporary glitch. Maybe I'll test some more tonight.

Could be a difference between group-deeded and set-to-group then :o (which would make things even more complicated :p).

Or they fixed it since even though they said they wouldn't :p. I'll try again on my land as wel :).

Just tested on group-deeded land and it still works the same way:

---

About Land / Create Objects: Off for 'All Residents' - On for 'Group'

Result: all group members can rez on the land, "Always allow 'Create Objects'" doesn't apply

---

About Land / Create Objects: Off for 'All Residents' - Off for 'Group'

Result: only group members with "Always allow 'Create Objects'" permission can rez

---

Could you try on group-set land? Would be helpful to know if it really does act different :).

I've been struggling with exactly this problem for some time this evening. Apparently the 'Always Create Objects' setting doesn't work for group-set land. Bummer, as I've got group-set land that I'm reluctant to deed to the group until I fully understand the ramifications.

Ahhh... yes it appears the permissions work differently on group-deeded vs. group-set. Sadly I'm all group-deeded now, so can't test group-set anymore. I guess it makes sense (kind of) for group-deeded, since the group itself is the owner of the land.

Hi Scott, I think it really should work with group-set land. If the land has group-build turned on, and the person trying to build is in a role with build permission, AND the person is wearing their group tag at the time (VERY IMPORTANT!!!), it should work... at least it did for me back when I was just group-set.

I can't get inworld right now to get the exact permissions setting, but feel free to IM me if you want more help with this... I can even come over and help you out if we are in world at the same time.
