I just went on the Lindex to sell some Lindens. After you plug in the Quantity and the Exchange Rate there are now 2 figures: Estimated Value and Estimated Proceeds. On 250,000 Lindens offered for sale at 260, there is now an outrageous US$34.87 "Transaction Fee". When did this change come about?

This is not new, there has always been a charge for selling Lindens since I've been here.

It was always there--it just wasn't spelled out so clearly.

It's the 3½% that's been around since I've been cashing out - a loooong time.

I never knew that. I should pay more attention to stuff like that, but i do not think it would have mattered anyways especially when dealing with 250k _____________________

Is that a lot? Fair? Low? It's minuscule, honestly. I consider it to be fair. _____________________

It's a lot over time - it adds up. It is always 3.5%. In raw numbers, yes, it seems like a lot, but it is still .035 of what you earned. _____________________

And now if you earned it from Xstreet you already paid fees to LL. Now it's a double whammy.

Linden Lab makes mistakes enough that it's unnecessary to get all aggrieved about business-as-usual. And unhelpful, too: crying "wolf" loses its impact after a while.
The 3.5% fee has been there for as long as I've had anything to do with the LindeX; I suspect it's been the same since GOM. And I sure don't grok the "double whammy" for Xstreet SL fees. Nothing has changed about that, either. If one doesn't think XSL's fees are worth it, don't list on XSL. If it's worth it, then why shouldn't there be a fee for that service, exactly as there always has been? (LL's XSL + OnRez acquisition, however, raises other concerns. It is a monopoly by our service provider, and they can easily erect impossible barriers to any competition, just by doing something sensible with merging in-world and web search and content. And then they could choose to raise listing fees. But they haven't done anything like that yet, and just maybe they understand that increased revenue from that source would be more than offset by losses elsewhere, such as land sales. Hint: for real fun, engage one of the vocal advocates of "free markets" on the subject of this acquisition, and watch them cycle around to demanding strict market regulations on LL; now that's entertainment!) |

( My point was not about the fee ,I too had no problem with it ,after all it was a separate company. Now that has changed. The shift in pushing Xstreet almost makes one obliged to use it. In another post it was stated that a ban from Xstreet (for a business owner) is almost the same as a ban from SL and I tend to agree. _____________________

In another post it was stated that a ban from Xstreet (for a business owner) is almost the same as a ban from SL and I tend to agree. The bans should be lifted and a ban from Xstreet now should lead to a ban inworld. If a merchant isn't good enough from Xstreet they shouldn't be good enough full stop. This Xstreet spam is going to bite Linden Lab in the arse if they're not careful. |
