A friend of mine recommended the Gemini viewer to me. I went to its blog ( http://insilico.ning.com/profiles/blogs/gemini-viewer), but I couldn't find a general description of WHAT the thing is. [aside: blogs have to be the worst software distribution vehicle ever. Have these folks never heard of an actual web page??] It comes out of the folks who brought you Insilico, a very demanding steampunk environment, and says that its optimized for fast rezzing etc. ... so I thought it might be handy in Caledon as well, which regularly kills my laptop. It looks like it might be derived from the Greenlife codebase, but I'm not sure. The presence of RLV options worries me - I've always thought it would be difficult (from a code control point of view) to keep RLV features from creeping into non-RLV user's experience. Has anyone used it? What do you think? .

The RLV codes presence will not affect you if you have it disabled.
I use my own custom viewer, Emerald + RLV. So I can tell you from having handled the code plenty of times.

Thanks for reminding me about this, I'd forgotten. I'll give it a shot and get back to you.

From: Nika Talaj Nobody's used this one? Yes, most functions from GLE viewer have been implemented in this viewer which is a free plus for this Gemini viewer and another prove that those extras inside GLE make sense for most of the people. The first impression you get is the interface and the skin. It's more a matter of taste and usage because of the dark UI (dark gray designed tone two white fonts) which may will not suit most of the builders who prefer to work in sunny places. The contrast between interface, font and in-world light is too high and keeps your eyes really too busy during the work. On other hand this is useful and wanted in dark places. The design looks very clean and good. Very well done! I didn't compare everything yet but its really worth watching More later maybe

Played around with it a bit, some of the extra bells and whistles may be slowing it down. I got lower framerates than with 1.23.4. I'm not sure it renders any faster than the LL viewer.

I find the Gemini viewer very hard to see. Gray text on a gray background in many places. The dialog box backgrounds are so dark and transparent that when it's dark, it's hard to see the edges when you want to drag them, or to see where one dialog stops and the next one starts. Haven't noticed any advantage to it, but I've only tried it a few times for a short while. With the interface colors being what they are, it would have to have some powerful advantages in order for me to use very often.

It's not steampunk, it's futuristic and dystopian - cyberpunk.
