(original title: unable to login with beta viewer ) (most information here is old, the fresh stuff probably starts at about post #12 I think) (edit: hm, this sucks, editing the title doesn't actually edits the title (if any mod read this, please change the title?) when I try to login on the main grid with the beta client, it fails my guess is it has somthing to do with the initialization of multimedia being moved back to the login process instead of being done when the client is loading. Back when the changes made to allow webpages to be used as media stream, one of the things that changed was the moment the multimedia system was initialized, that change allwoed me to use Quicktime again in a very long time (I was having a similar issue before that change, the client would hang when initializing QT when logging in and the server would give up connecting me, and now with the beta viewer it seems that issue is back (I'll post the error msgs I get here in a bit) edit: ok, this time I managed to log in on the second attemp, this is the third time I managed to log in in more than 10 attemps ever since I got this version of the beta grid, my guess is next time I try I won't be able to again....

I have more or less given up trying to get into the beta grid. It either hangs, gives me the "despite our best efforts" message or tells me my password is wrong (it isn't.)
It's really frustrating..

Tried just using control-shift-G with the ordinary viewer, then logging into Aditi?

that works normally, but the regular client can't copile mono, and the RC will eventually become the main client, which is what worries me the most:/

I misread you original post - my apologies. I read "beta grid" not "beta viewer."

you know, i've been trying to log in for 12 minutes now under that "login failed" screen as my RL partner has too and neither can get in yet surprisingly the number of users online has stayed the same. And I know it will at least be an hour before anything is said "officially" on the matter. Sometimes it makes me wish we could either get information on system farts quicker or had a means to process reports of such to get news of such faster. It's just one of those minor things one thinks of as they patiently wait for at least a blog as to what is up outside of a "login failed". I'd be at least happier to see the longer due to circumstances outside our control message. at least something.

RC 1.20.14.92115
that's what i'm using. i know there's 1.21s but they seemed to open up a bigger memory leak issue for me, which is why i went back to 1.20 after using 1.21 ~
i'm not super tech savvy though so i might have used the wrong term with "memory leak".. but.. with version 1.21 i was getting "out of memory" errors with SL just from sitting in my own closed sim for a few hours, which never ever happened in 1.20 ... but the memory errors made 1.21 quickly unusable for me.

Well, there appears to have been a new RC put out today, "Today, 04:51 PM " . So maybe that would work.
If there's a quicktime issue, what version of Quicktime, and have you tried Quicktime Alternative?
Also, can't hurt to turn modem and router off and back on, for login problems.
I'm not paying attention to whether SL is having general login problems at the moment.

well, guess what? many unsisntalations and reinstalations and upgrades of Quicktime later, many client versions later, many different clients including clients that don't share any of folder with the official client, not even settings, now everywhere i get the freeze at "Initializing multimedia" followed by a failure to login
is there any sort of monitoring program I can run or any log file I can browse that would give people more information on what is going on? (like, Sysinternal's Procmon, or Wireshark or somthing, I got those two installed, I dunno how to read most of what they return, but I believe I would be able to set any setting you guys ask me to filter the right data or somthing)
btw, here are my current specs acording to the about screen (no ATI card)
CPU: Intel Pentium 4 (Unknown model) (2999 MHz) Memory: 3071 MB OS Version: Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (Build 2600) Graphics Card Vendor: NVIDIA Corporation Graphics Card: GeForce 7300 GT/PCI/SSE2 OpenGL Version: 2.1.2
libcurl Version: libcurl/7.18.1 OpenSSL/0.9.8j zlib/1.2.3 J2C Decoder Version: KDU Audio Driver Version: FMOD version 3.750000 LLMozLib Version: [LLMediaImplLLMozLib] - 2.01.24310 (Mozilla GRE version 1.8.1.20_0000000000)
