What nifty things can be done with visitor list?

My greeting script sends me a very nice report every day with lots of statistics and a list of everyone who visited my riverboat. I was curious if people here have found useful things to do with this information. I thought of creating a group and inviting everyone who visited by that would mean one by one (unless there is some way of doing it faster?) looking up the names and sending out an invitation.

I get group invites for stores and clubs all the time. Like most people I just consider it spam. I simply ignore and move on. Some people mute and some even AR -- but I guess yu can AR anything now.

If you have a script catching visitors, you might as well let it do the work for you. Make a nice notecard saying, thanks for visiting, plese keep us in mind for you next whatever, we have a grouped named blah you can join or IM so-and-so for an invite. Drop a few pretty pictures on the notecard and let the script hand that out. If you check to make sure this is a new visitor before handing out the notcard it would put you miles ahead of the rest.

I don't understand. Am I missing a joke here? Reset the script and lose the list?

the info is pretty useless besides knowing you get traffic unless doing a complete market research thingy

Here's what we do with our greeter at the Shelter....

-New residents under 20 days old get 'announced' to the room, and get sent a notecard with helpful information. (Only once)

-Older residents get sent a simple greeting.

-Each day, the greeter totals up the number of unique people its seen that day, and emails the counts to Shelter management. That information is way more useful to us than any traffic number, to see whether we're trending busier/slower.

That's a good idea, a little time consuming but could be done on a weekend.

I do like the unique count, it means alot more to me than the traffic which the parcel registers.

after a certain amount of listings your scripts gunna break....(mine does anyway) depending on traffic, I like to clean that list with reset.. Of course I copy paste the "list" into a notecard or notepad in windows....

However, Mine does not spam people with a LM or anything else, it just tracks who is in my shop.

I keep track of unique visitors also and would like to be able to IM them periodically to advise of product updates. Can anyone recommend a tool that can send out bulk IMs?

Thanks!

We had a long discussion here /327/32/250791/1.html about whether it is intrusive, spammy, and/or ARable to send group invitations in this way. You might find the discussion interesting.

It was my normal practice for a while (though I only sent invitations to people who visited more than once), but in response to that discussion I've lately tried a different practice as I noted in that thread.

It was a lot of work; every invitation has to be sent manually.

That's really all I do with my visitor detector - just copy the list every day out to an Excel spreadsheet and keep track of the numbers and who is coming back more than once. I haven't thought of anything else fun that I can do with it. :)

What are some good visitor lists? I want one that will IM me, scan more than 20 meters and NOT give anything to the visitors.

I got one at JZ Designs that will scan up to 96m. It can be set to IM you if you are in game or if your game settings are to receive IMs via email if you are not, you get that too. Range & frequency of scan can be altered to what you wish. It can send a text message greeting out in public chat if you wish or not if you don't. You just have to reset the guest list before it runs out of memory or else you have to enter all your settings again.

hippoVISIT has a hud that will send messages when a visitor comes by. sends emails at intervals you set, and can scan or use collision to reduce lag. And it can network with other hippoVISITs - managers, etc. can all be alerted to visitors.

You could make something that would send to Vistor.x "Vistor.y told me you are really cute but is much too shy to make advances, maybe you should make the first move!". That might be a little amusing.

How do you place an image on a Notecard
04-18-2008 01:55
I'm new to SL so I hope I have posted this in the correct spot.
How do you place an image on a Notecard?
My friend wants one that stands out so when people open it, they will see a logo she wants to use.
We have migrated over from another site and she wants to use a relatively simple logo as a background on a Notecard, so she can hand them out like calling cards with her information on it.
She is going to work on the mature side of things in SL. So her 'Calling Card' will have her rates etc on it. That way she can get her details out and about in the Adult World of SL.
Hope I've made all of this clear.

Background logos are not supported in NCs. She may embed pictures to show off her, well, let's call them attractions, but the reader will have to click on the small picture icons inside the NC to make them pop up.

I suggest that she uses a nicely designed logo as the first page in the "picks" in her profile.

Welcome and good luck to both of you!

I just open an Art Gallery a couple of days ago, I look at my counter (it only says the name of visitors) and after I sending them a note to thank thier visit I just reset and wait for the next day list :)

Now I'm just looking for a mail box where people can send notes to me :)

you can attach a an image to a note card by opening the note card on screen from inventory (at the top you can select 'make new note card too) and then drag the image on to it, however, the person receiving the note card as to first open it then click the image 'icon' to open the image.

Another way is a prim with a image applied to one face of it. rez a prim on to the floor, and then drag the image from the inventory on to on side of the prim, in the edit window give it it's own unique name.

You can now put a note card in to the contents section of the prim, you can put Land Marks, other objects, whatever you like, you need to put in a 'give contents' script, freebies of these scripts are readily available, then check permissions and then take the prim back into the inventory.

Now give that prim as a calling card, when the person receiving it rezzes it to the ground it will put a folder with all info into their inventory.

If you need any help and see me on-line just ask.

There are freebie Greeter scripts, and, from memory there is a freebie notecard drop script as well (I think in an object that looks like a RL American mailbox). Try Yadni's Junkyard for the scripts if you haven't got them already.

Those will be a good place to start.

If you are able to script, you can modify them to do more or less (which is what I've done), but it's not *necessary* to spend money when you're starting off, unless the freebies don't do what you want/need.

Oh - and - when you get busier, you might find it gets too much to do the manual notes, which is when an automated notecard-giver/greeter comes in handy...

That sounds really good, I have one of those bells but when someone rings it I have to look up their name in search to IM them, what a pain.
