Tracker in inventory?

If I have received gifts and things for a while, and one of those items contains a tracker script, is there any way to find it?

Are there anti-spy devices in SL like in RL ?

Is there anyone else here that thinks this is an alt asking questions to populate a wiki, rather than wanting answers for him/herself?

Pep (We had something like this when the "blog" was being set up; are *we* being set up?)

hmmm... How do I know if I am an alt? ....

Nope, just ignorant noob. I have a friend who has a stalker sometimes pop up when they come online.

Check out the Mystitool
https://xstreetsl.com/modules.php?name=Marketplace&SearchKeyword=mystitool&searchSubmitImage.x=48&searchSubmitImage.y=
19&SearchLocale=0&SearchPriceMin=&SearchPriceMax=
&SearchRatingMin=&SearchRatingMax=&sort=&dir=asc

It includes a radar, so you can see who is within 96m of you, and also a tool for searching for nearby scripted objects.

It's certainly possible to put a tracker script in an object and have it tell you where the object is, either when the object moves from on sim to another or when you ask it to tell you. If your friend is really worried about this, then s/he might want to think about any scripted attachments s/he's accepted as an unsolicited gift recently and is wearing. You'd need to wear the item for it to be any use; it's not going to tell anyone anything while it's sat in someone's inventory.

The MystiTool won't help much; it doesn't detect attachments anyway, and all it can tell you is if something's got a script in it, not what it's doing.

This is different from just telling when someone's online. That's trivially simple.. if your friend's not decided to hide it, then it's available on their profile. If they have, it's still available to members of the same groups in the group's members' box. Or you use a pretty simple script to poll someone's online status.

I'd suggest your friend just mute and ban the stalker and report him or her for harassment if it gets too annoying. That's assuming, of course, the stalker actually is a stalker rather than someone with whom your friend doesn't get on and who happens to hang out in the same places.

Several devices, including MystiTool, can detect objects with "listener" scripts in them. A lot of these will be false positives...many objects listen to chat for legitimate reasons.

You can't find spy objects in your inventory...you have to rez the suspected thing(s) in world to inspect their contents.

A simple online status script and familiarity with the target's usual haunts is all that a stalky person would really need. A lot of what might look like sophisticated tracking is just good guesswork.

MystiTool can't detect listeners, all it can look for is active scripts. The "bugs" moniker is misleading.

Sorry, I misunderstood: I didn't realize there was a stalker involved. I thought the OP wanted to be able to see if anyone was nearby, and pick up on any scripted objects that might be within chat range.

That said, I love my Mysti. :p
