The best freebies I found were via a group called Fabulously Free in SL. They've now got 5000 members or so in the group.
Best freebies are very much in the eye of the beholder though. One man's mini-skirt is another man's white elephant.
I personally like all the quirky stuff to be found at Toastyville on Lesten 203,33,93.
And also X Street website is great for finding freebies from all categories, and getting inspiration for where you want to visit in SL next.
Go explore, seek and you shall find and all that.

The Gnuibie Store in Powder Mill is a place where big name SL designers showcase their stuff for $L1 or less. None of the usual "Freebie store BIAB" junk here AT ALL, these are serious merchants who want to entice you to come to their place and buy.
For example, one VERY well-known and crtically acclaimed clothingdesigner has a booth there where she sells a package of men's jeans (I forget whether there are 3 or 4 in the package) for $L1 - yet the identical package sells ffor $L350 in her main store.

There's been a debate going on in another thread about freebies hurting the economy of SL - or perhaps it was specifically about designers offering freebies in their stores. That being said, my personal favorite for freebies is DSN. You can find the display at many stores and sign up to receive gifts from designers in about 8 different categories. This website explains how it works: http://iheartsl.com/2009/05/31/dsn-an-illustrated-guide/I like it because it is an opt in system for as few or as many categories as you like and equally easy to opt out. Plus, it allows you to see the quality of the items of the participating designers and you may wish to go check out more of their store items. I was in the Fabulously Free in SL (FabFree) group as a designer and finally dropped it due to the never-ending group IMs. The Free Dove is the first Freebie store I heard of when I joined SL, but I now prefer The Gnubie store as mentioned above.

I depended on the fabulously free group when i was a newbie. Great blog and great group!
But basically you can find so many free stuff on SL if you have the time. Try hitting the Midnight Mania boards too, you can get tons of nice items from those.
and also there are so many fashion blogs focusing on freebies or dollarbie wear, Just search for Fashion secondlife in google.

DSN is awesome. I'm wearing a hair I got through them the other day, and it's really good. I plan to go and shop in that store once I'm a bit less busy. Basically you sign up and then freebies are delivered to your avatar. It's niiice. You click kiosks in world to sign up, there's one at the Forum Cartel hangout and there is a list on their website. DSN: http://cleverthings.info/dsn/lang/enOther good freebie blogs are: Men's: http://ffform.wordpress.comMen's: http://freefindsformen.blogspot.comMostly women's: http://fabfree.wordpress.comAll kinds of stuff: http://freebietelegraph.wordpress.comWebsite with freebie places all over SL: http://puritansguidetosecondlife.blogspot.com/2007/07/freebies-on-sl.htmlEveryone should sign up with DSN though it's so worth it - and zero effort! Just sit back and get freebie delivery almost daily.

From: Morgaine Alter and Honeybears blog cant find the link now http://virtual-freebies.blogspot.com/And if you like hunts, there are always at least a half dozen or so going on around the grid and most of the stores do a pretty good job of giving decent freebies to introduce you to their stuff.

Yes and hunts are good, if one enjoys them, for not only stocking up on wardrobe and other items but also for meeting people and seeing new sims/shops along the way. Just make sure to organise inventory as you go. Right click/rename folder. LittleMe or anyone, isn't there a blog that keeps a current list of all SL hunts? I don't have the URL.

There's, uh, probably a lot of things you didn't know about lindens. Another, another interesting, uh, lindenism, uh, there are only three jobs available to a linden. The first is making shoes at night while, you know, while the old cobbler sleeps. You can bake cookies in a tree. But the third job, some call it, uh, "the show" or "the big dance," it's the profession that every linden aspires to.
