Hi,
I have my own standalone sim, and although I sometimes connect it to other grids I usually operate it in purely standalone mode, and invite friends over to join me there, especially when SL is down, or when it is really laggy or misbehaving at weekends.
One problem, of course, with a standalone sim is that there are no stores, so everything has to be created by hand, every prim, every texture, every sound, every anim.
I have finished my builds, they were fairly straightforward, including the building textures, but now myself and my friends want to start looking reasonable again (we are all 'Ruth' right now, except for our shapes, which were easy to do).
Does anyone know if there are any suppliers of skins, hair, clothes and anims where the point of delivery is OUTSIDE of SL?
As the only way to sell outside of SL is by providing the textures directly to a customer, so they can be uploaded into standalone sims, I am guessing that the answer is 'no-one does', as at least with SL, products can benefit from the permissions system, whereas by directly supplying textures then they are always full perm physically, even if a supply agreement has restrictions on use, so there is risk.
If anyone has a different take on this, or has any other inputs on these issues, I would welcome feedback.

I had wondered the same thing. I have a 2-sim standlone island. I look almost the same there as in SL (copied slider measurements of all my vital statistics and entered them on 'edit appearance' for the standalone). The skin they give you on the standard avatar is passable but it would be nice to look exactly like I really look in SL. Maybe some of the SL skin makers could offer their freebie skin textures as targa downloads via e-mail - after all they're not losing any income that way

At this point I wouldn't mind demo skins! I would love to pay for a good skin, but where to get one? Front

There have been exporters for SL->other grids for quite some time and they're probably not too fussy about permissions.
Everything in-world with restricted permissions is off-limits for obvious (moral) reasons, but full-permission items are debatable I guess.
You could make a case that the creator might have never intended the item to be exported elsewhere and that it's not part of the implied license since there's no current way to show whether or not it's something they wanted.
All Linden content in the library is full permission for instance, but they still retain the rights to those items, they're not in the public domain. It's implied they granted a free-use license for use within SL by making them full permission, but they might object to having their content used outside of SL.
Unless you have the consent of every person that had a part in creating the item (both the prims, the textures, any scripts, etc) it's probably not "ok" to export things.

There are quite a few creator kits on SLExchange which contain layered files or tgas - which will be sent to you externally.

I sell a full perms kimono maker kit as well as sculptie shoes, hats, cuffs and sleeves. I would be happy to deliver .tga and .bmp files to your email address. Or you can download the textures from SL to your computer. The conditions would be the same as on the main grid. Don't sell or give away the textures themselves and set the clothing items and attachments to no transfer or no copy before you give them to your firends.

Just wanted to make sure you guys looked at the URL Marie posted. Eloh's skin PSDs are very nice and totally free. Yes, FREE. Eloh is a saint. For hair textures, I know Digit Darkes had a large set of hair textures that got stolen, so she made them all free. They are delivered in SL, though, so if you want them elsewhere, you'll have to save them to disk one at a time. Here's the link to them on SLX: http://www.slexchange.com/modules.php?name=Marketplace&file=item&ItemID=130476

PM me with a web email and I'll send you some clothing textures I've made for SL clothing. They are textures you only need to apply in appearance (assuming the standalone works like SL). I can also send the raw textures I used for some of those clothing items that I made. Most are sheer and some are rather unique. I have made some of really revealing silks too..........I can send those textures too but you will have to put them together since I know of no way to export the prim clothes I've made in SL. All will be full permissions. I give everything I make away to others who want them with full perms.............I'm not one to worry about someone "ripping me off". I do all my clothing and textures for the sheer joy of making the stuff. If someone likes it and wears it and gives/sells it then I have my own joy of knowing that "I did that!!" I don't care if I get the recognition........I will know when I see it. And making money playing what I consider a game is something that is totally beyond my comprehension. If I give something to someone.......it's theirs to do as they please. I give with no strings.......none.
