Friends list visibility question

I think I know the answer, but here goes: Under the current in-world settings, there is no way to be temporarily invisible from your friends on your friends list, correct ? The only two alternatives I can see is either you are visible to everyone (via Search and friends list) and only to your friends. TIA.

In your friends list, you can choose whether or not they can see your on line status.

I'm not in world but the friends button is on the bottom menu; friends that can see your online status have an eye next to their name. When you remove "See my online status" the eye will no longer be next to their name.

That's what I thought also, but I've had a friend spot me even with the eye off. Maybe that was just a temporary glitch.

If you are in a group together, they can see if the other members of the gruop are online of not.

Ermm... as I said already in another thread concerning this subject...

Why are those people on your friendlist if you want to hide from them? You don't want them to see your online status? Remove them from your friendlist.

Set in your preferences that no online-status is given through search and alike.

If I don't to want be bothered by people, I switch to "busy". That gives a clear sign and even stops IM's.

And always remember, there is currently no way to be really "invisible". There always ways to check your online status...

Well I think of my friends list more as a "phone book". Useful for people I want to be able to contact easily, or vice-versa. I have all the options turned off for most of the people on my list.

They can always see you from the outside looking in unless you turn everyone off using preference. You can do this from the inside or outside, so I would image you can turn it off and on inworld. I do understand, there are certain times I just like my privacy too. Busy doesn't do much for me, I still get their IM's immediately and get tired of watching them blinking. Good luck with this one

For "Phone book" people (people I want to remember their name and alike) I use the calling cards. My friendslist is "friends only".

Are really sure about this?

When I turn to "busy" all IM's are suspressed, until I turn "busy" off again.

Hiding On-LIne Status
11-18-2007 11:25
I think there is a bug here. I routinely have all my "friends" unticked to prevent them seeing my on-line status (I take the point about calling cards earlier in this thread - good idea - but I like to see who is on before I decide who I wnat to see me!!! Selfish, perhaps!
Anyhow - recently I have been getting IM's from people when I sign on - so I ask them "How did you know I was on?" - answer: "You came on as online on my screen".
So - it looks like sometimes this works, sometimes it doesn't!!
Beware!!

I believe this is a known bug. Not sure if it's fixed in FL Windlight. I believe there is a JIRA issue on this although I do not have the link handy.

I took Desmonds advice about friends list from another thread. Maybe its in my head, but after I deleted 2/3 of all the people that I had on my friends list, logging seemed quicker and I did not lag as much. Told a buddy of mine and he experienced the same results.
