Ok...I'm a little concerned here. I connect to SL with my laptop via my wireless Linksys router. I've never ever had a problem connecting or staying online in SL. I have a very speedy DSL connection.
However, my stepdaughter is going to stay with us this summer and she has a wireless notebook as well. She'll be sharing my connection, and I am concerned that she'll be sucking some of the bandwidth? that I'll need to stay logged into SL. Am I worrying about something that is a non-issue? I'm very greedy with my connection and am not happy about sharing it with her in the first place, for any reason, but if it affects my ability to stay in-world, I'm gonna be one very very unhappy non-camper. (hehe not a camper anyhow, but you see my point?)

I share a wireless connection with one other computer (sometimes two when my father in law visits and brings his laptop), a Nintendo Wii, and an XBox 360. Even with all of thost running at once, the only time I get any noticeable problems with bandwidth is when someone is running Bittorrent or something similar. My laptop sucks, too, so I wouldn't worry!

From the official system requirements for Second Life: From: someone * Second Life is not compatible with dial-up internet, satellite internet, and some wireless internet services. use at your own risk. I've had friends who connect via a wireless router, who often miss messages, and IMs, and sometimes double or triple post things they say. I personally recommend some cheap ethernet cables.

We're often running at least 2 laptops plus an xBox, Wii, or some other gizmo on the wireless at my house and almost never have trouble. I wouldn't be too worried, even though it's not officially supported.

Thanky's ladies for putting my mind at ease. As I stated, I have a super dooper DSL connection. I'm less than a mile from the main box. I just don't want to be sharing the connection on my wireless router and suffer any degrading connection problems because of it. We shall see how it goes tonight. Here's hoping I don't end up in a vein-popping tailspin!

I've had friends who connect via a wireless router, who often miss messages, and IMs, and sometimes double or triple post things they say. I personally recommend some cheap ethernet cables. The system requirements you quoted don't apply to wireless routers. They're talking about internet access through cell phones (which is what they mean by "wireless internet services" , satellite dishes, and analog phone services. In other words, they're talking about the path between your modem and the service provider, while a wireless router connects between your modem and your computers. If your friends' problems are really due to the wireless router, it could be because they have poor signal strength or sources of interference. I wouldn't generalize that to all wireless routers. However, when you say they double or triple post things, that sounds more like a software problem (or just plain impatience).
