Right ok.

A little while ago I bought a plug and play headset with a microphone and it has been working fabulously so far.
But yesterday, someone was messing with the settings on my computer and it wont work anymore
There is nothing wrong with the headset itself, that is working great! i have tested it and it works. but when I try to use it in SL, the mic just wont work. SL wont pick up any sound.
i have tried using the default built in mic too, just to see what happens, but it is doing the same. SL just wont let me send out sound :(

This is really annoying me, I don't talk over voice much, and when I do, i want it to bloody well work!
Can someone please suggest something to help me? Are there any settings I need to check, either on my computer or in SL itself?

Oh, and I ran the device settings thing. It doesn't do anything. i have tried every hardware option in the drop down, and the sound bar just wont budge.

Help?

Hmmm, this could be SL Claire... last night I tried to enable voice to talk to a friend and we could not get it to work. We could hear PC sounds but no mic. sounds. We gave up.. I have made no changes to my PC unless MS did something behind my back with one of their 'security updates'

maybe try another program that uses a microphone and see if it works?

NOt sure if this will help but try if you havn't already opening control panel then sounds then look at speaker settings>voice, you should see what default setting your mic is on do the same in the audio tab.

Under volume you should be able to open your master volume check to make sure none are mute.

invite the same person over and depixel them lol

Nothing is on mute...im sure of it. i have an option that enables any sound going through the mic to be played back through the earpeice. I enabled this to test it, and i could hear myself very clearly. I muted and it stopped.
I have this turned off, but have tried sl with it both on and off. neither seems to work.
i dont use the mic with any other program, so not sure how i can test that, but i will see what else i can try and use it with.

reboot your computer, i have a plug n play headset as well, and when i accidently unplugged it oen day i had the same issue. leave it in and restart your computer, it should pick it back up and work fine after that :)

There's, uh, probably a lot of things you didn't know about lindens. Another, another interesting, uh, lindenism, uh, there are only three jobs available to a linden. The first is making shoes at night while, you know, while the old cobbler sleeps. You can bake cookies in a tree. But the third job, some call it, uh, "the show" or "the big dance," it's the profession that every linden aspires to.

Start>programs>accessories>entertainment>sound recorder

Then talk in to your mic, you will see jiggly lines on it if it works.

There is another place you might want to have a look at. Every now and then my mic turns itself off for me.

Check here: start>setting>control panel>sounds and audio devices>audio>sound recording - volume (click on volume)> recording control will popup then under microphone make sure select is checked, then click on advanced, make sure Mic docking is checked.

For some strange reason my unchecks itself sometimes when I am talking. Naughty thing

i just did the test hardware, and it is definitely working. No problems with the mic, all connected. Jiggly lines jiggling, volume up, blah blah. I will try to reboot with it connected to see if that could be the problem. I tend to connect after sl has started
