I've decided it's about time that I progressed to something a little larger than my first land, 512m2. I'm now looking at plots around 2048m2. From what I understand from the land FAQ in support, I could get upto 2560m2 and keep my (free) 512m2 and not go into the next tier level. From: someone 6. I think I'd like to own more than 512 square meters - how does that happen??You can own as much land as you choose; change the amount of land you own and your monthly fee will adjust accordingly. Your bill at the end of the month is based on the peak amount of land you owned during the previous 30 days. Beyond the initial 512 meters covered by your Premium account, this chart shows the monthly cost of owning the following additional amounts of land. It also shows how many objects you can build on that amount of land. For example: If you pay a total of US$15 -$10 for Premium and $5 for extra land, then you can own a total of 1024 square meters and use up to 234 prims. Land Maintenance Fee Schedule Monthly Land Fee(1) Tier(m2) Minimum m2/ Maximum m2 Allowed(2) Max Prims(3) US$195 Full Region(65,536m2) 33,281 to 66,048 15,000 US$125 1/2 Region (32,768m2) 16,897 to 33,280 7,500 US$75 1/4 Region (16,384m2) 8,705 to 16,896 3,750 US$40 1/8 Region (8,192m2) 4,609 to 8,704 1,875 US$25 1/16 Region (4,096m2) 2,561 to 4,608 937 US$15 1/32 Region (2,048m2) 1,537 to 2,560 468 US$8 1/64 Region (1,024m2) 1,025 to 1,536 351 US$5 1/128 Region (512m2) 513 to 1,024 234 None (Premium Only) No additional land 0 to 512 117 So if I get 2560m2 and keep my 512m2 I'll be in the $15 tier level? I have got hold of the right end of the stick, haven't I? Along similar lines... I have a friend who's land available for purchase is showing as 2048m2. Are we right in assuming that if he were to buy this amount of land he would still stay in the same tier level? He's a little worried that 2047m2 would keep the same tier level, but 2048m2 would push him up to the next.

There are ways to play around with groups, but I'll leave that alone. 1. own 512 2. buy 2560 3. tier now at whatever 3072m would be at, which looks like 25 dollars.

You're billed by the total size of all land you own, regardless of how it's split up or where it is.. Can be a whole bunch of 16m2s or one big parcel - doesn't matter.
Talkin' mainland here, islands are a different thing.

If you want to max out at $15, you must own 2048 IN ADDITION TO your first 512, for a maximum of 2560 unless you buy the land for group and deed your first 512 to group, at which point you can own 256m2 more.

If it says he can add 2048, he can add 2048. When he goes to buy the land, he will be warned if the purchase will push him into the next tier level with a red arrow. If he gets all green checks, it means his tier will not go up. So he will have a chance to test out the 2048 query with no risk, as long as he hits cancel if he gets the red arrow warning.

When you go to the "My Account" part of the SL web site and click on the "Land Use Fees" link on the right hand side, you will find a calculator that that may help convince your friend.

Your available amount is precisely the number you can purchase before tiering up. That is the gap in your tier. If his available number is 2048 he can buy 2048 without tiering up.

From: Prawnyloks Parker Thanks everyone. All cleared up now. Maybe I should've headed this thread "Land for Dummies". Well a bit less of a dummie now If they made the whole thing more intuative, you would not feel so dumb. A friend last night tiered down several months ago but did not manually lower his land use fees on the site. He has been getting billed for tier he was not using.
