Hi,

I have a simple question for SIM owners out there, How do you change the sky and water settings for the whole SIM as a sim owner?

Thanks

You can't. Photographers are just about the only people who get to show their Windlight weather settings to others, which is a crying shame but there you go. There were noises about making regional settings optional for sim owners a long time back but nothing has come of that and Windlight remains one of the most tragically undeveloped Linden projects.

LL utterly failed to develop a way for sim owners to impose specific Windlight settings that all visitors can see. We can't even be certain what point in the day/night cycle a visitor will experience, since any Resident can override that in their client settings.

In the Twilight Town sim they attempted to get around that limit by forcing a landing area for the sim, and at that point offering a link to a website with info on how to download and install the custom Windlight settings that would allow you to experience the sim in the perpetual rosy twilight that the sim owner intended you to see. For someone unused to hacking their client, the process is cumbersome, arcane, and just plain frightening to contemplate. I'm a pretty experienced user, and by no means inexperienced in computer tasks, and it took me three tries to get that install process to work right! And each time you get new client software, you have to repeat that painful process.

I just checked that sim again, and it looks like they gave up on that approach. No doubt the people who roleplay there can still go to the website and download the sim's Windlight settings, but they weren't even forcing a landing point any more.

Sorry, LL won't let me tell you where I sell my textures and where I offer my services as a sim builder. Ask me in-world.

Check out this Wiki articles concerning the Estate Management Tools
http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/The_Region/Estate_window

For water, all you are able to adjust is the height of the water.

You can also set the Sun as FIXED if you want just a specific time of day to always be the Region Default and not have a day/night progression.

I have always thought it was pointless to change your settings to get the look you want because you are the only person who can see it.
It would be great stuff if you could impose those settings on everybody that enters. That way we would see some great effects and you could build around your preferred settings. No point in bothering ATM. Shame

Funny.....while I totally get your perspective.....I would hate hate hate it if I couldn't adjust my sky settings where ever I went. One of the things I most love about my SL experience is being able to manipulate my 'entire' environment. But then again, I'm a photographer so it stands to reason I'm one of those who likes to play with windlight all the time.

The OP's question has been answered tho.....there's no way to 'impose' your sky settings on to visitors. However.....it would be great if LL could come up with a way to share the dam things in-world so one could have a 'sky settings giver' upon entry to the area.....and visitors could then at least try and and see what the creator intended them to see. Not being a programming guru...I have no idea what that would involve......but I do recall that at one time the understanding was LL was 'working on' in world sharing of sky settings. Pity they dropped the ball.
