Is anyone else experiencing issues with what seems to be wireless connection - but only with sl it seems? My screen gets dotted lines across it and teh whole thing jams up. Seems to work okay for this type of thing.

Why do you think it is your wireless?

Lines across your screen then the whole thing locks up?

Start shopping for a new graphics card. Maybe your current one is still under warrenty?

I'm with Dante - double check your video card.

Get a super duper Nvidia card like the '295' or something.

Just take your PC to a shop and tell them to "make it so".

Use that Jig love on them.

WAIT!

How old si your dell?

Is it under warranty?

If under warranty call Dell, scream at them till they understand what you want.

If not, find a PC store that specialises in Dell repairs, OR simply contact Dell and send away your PC to be repaired.

But, dont forget to put everything onto an external HD just in case they ruin it.

And mine. :( I just got my 'puter back from repair with a spanking new card, and SL seems to run much more smoothly than it had done for the last few months.

If under warrenty definately get them to do it.

But! If you tell me the exact model number of your dell, I can tell if you can go out and get your own card, and how to put it in.

Please excuse me for stealing into this thread but I have the same problem in that I need to get a new graphics card for my Dell to replace the inbuilt Intel chipset.

It's an Inspiron 530 and the only change I've made to it from new is to add 2more gigs of RAM.

I'm sorely tempted by the Nvidia GeForce 9500 GT 512Mhz as I've only got a 300W PSU.
What do you think?

Once more, sorry for butting in.

Ahab, the manufacturer(at least EVGA) recommends at least a 350W power supply for that card.

Thanks Dante.
I keep getting conflicting information about that from different sites.
Nvdia's own says 300w but some sellers suggest 350w. Some reviews and forums also say different things. It's a nightmare for non-techie folk like me. I don't even know which maker or seller is the best. I dread trying to upgrade the PSU so maybe I'll stagger on with what I've got.
I have, however, used "extreme Power calculator" which gives power needs as under 200w.

Go figure. "You pays yer noney and takes yer chances".

Definately the video card Jiggy, although it may just be from having a thick mat of dust bunnies hiding in the video cards heatsinc and under the fan for it. Try blasting it clean with a can of compressed air first. If it still does that after you're sure it's clean.. *then* it would be time to think about replacing it.

Whatever you do, don't keep trying to hammer SL through it if it's dirty or going bad. If you overload it in that condition it can pop and and take your motherboard and/or power supply with it. I've seen it and it's not pretty.
