I haven't logged in to Second Life in a few months, and went to change clothes, and right now its taking like 5 minutes to even show up my outfits in the inventory, and when I go to put them on, they show up but they're nearly transparant. What am I doing wrong and how can I fix this? I can't walk around 50% clothed all day.

Why not? lol. Just kidding. What I usually do is go into appearance and the clothes will show up a bit quicker.

I've seen this happen when a sim is very laggy. If you try going elsewhere, to a sim where there are less people and less activity, the problem may go away.

What else could it be? Firewall, maybe. Are you running a personal firewall, such as Zone Alarm? Try turning it off temporarily to see if the problem goes away.

If you're connecting from your job, your company firewall may be interfering. If so, you would have other laggy problems, like difficulty walking, people taking ten or more minutes to appear...

You could have a poor network connection, but if you can browse the web and download videos without trouble, then it isn't likely to be that.

Also, remember that others may see you fully clothed, even you appear to yourself to be scantily clad.

Maybe your cache needed time to build up? Just guessing- glad it worked out.

What might be helpful is to get over it. Log out and go for a walk, look at the trees, breathe the fresh air. Youll soon stop worrying about something so ridiculously unimportant and meaningless.

Um yeah hey. Might be unimportant and meaningless to YOU but it's not to me. So screw off.

p.s. Nice tacky name.

Having the same problem
05-05-2009 23:58
I'm having the same problem - changing clothes and the new clothing textures don't appear (I waited for ten minutes once and nothing happened and I finally gave up). I have three computers: one runs Win XP, one runs Vista, and one is a Mac - all have the same problem. The Windows computers each have different firewalls, but the Mac doesn't have one - same problem all around. On XP and Mac I'm using the older client and on Vista I'm using the new one - same problem on all of them.

I've tried going into Edit Appearance, and it doesn't help, in fact, all of my clothing and even my skin turned black. The only thing that seems to help at all is moving to a less laggy sim, and even then it only helps sometimes. I thought it was something with the new client, but since I'm using the new one and the older one and it happens in both, it must be something else. It's driving me crazy having to relog every time I change clothes - anyone have any other ideas for me? Thanks.

I believe there is a system where inventory items that have not been used for some time get moved into another area - sort of like a remote back-up store. Frequently used items are in a quick access store. So I expect because you had not been around for some time, your inventory was sent to the slower access store. Once you had retrieved them they were then relocated to the fast access area. All in the cause of better performance and efficientcy :)
