Finding things in a shopping Mall

Hello,

Shopping malls can be enormous. I love shopping, but it can take ages to hunt around for a specific object.

If I use 'search' to find e.g. a pair of sunglasses I get a tp to a mall no problem, but is there a quick way of finding where in that mall the sunglasses are ?

Thanks

If your very lucky the objects in that mall maybe set to search, so search the shop or mall and on it's page you will get a list of objects below that give the location of that object, just wander around until these co-ordinates match and it should be there. this only works about 10 to 20% of the time though.

see if by any chance it has the little arrow pointing to a landing spot other than where you landed (I hate malls that do not allow direct teleport)

other than that, the above suggestion might work, or just wander around and hope you get lucky enough to find what you are looking for

I dislike malls...
1 they all look the same
2 too hard to find stuff

I have thought about building a mall more to the RL style... but what would one do with the food court area? hehe

Consider shopping on 3rd party site like SLExchange, easier to search and find what you want. You can then set up an account and buy there (your purchases are delivered to you in-world), or seek out the vendor in SL - I've done both........

I use the same technique as Taylor: I prefer to shop on SLExchange or Onrez because it is so easy to locate the item I want. Then I use the link from the item to TP to it in SL so I can try on the demo. ^_^

I seldom buy things from SLExchange or Onrez unless they have a link to TP to their store in-world. Then I usually end up bying the item in-world.

i like malls because lots of people don't own land, and only rent spots. i randomly find all sorts of cool and interesting things that i otherwise would have never been exposed to, when i cruise a mall.

not all malls are the same, and while some are cold and lifeless, some are rather beautiful and the atmosphere is enjoyable to be at.

when you use the new ALL search, the coordinates of the item you seek will be shown on each item listed for sale (if it's been set to show). just move yourself to those coordinates and you should be (at least) close to the item you seek.

Ditto. I enjoy small "quaint" shops or those in some kind of a themed area that is also fun to spend time in doing other things rather than shopping.

Some malls have a billboard with all their merchant shops listed on them which can "usually" be clicked to be tp'd directly there. Wish all malls did that.

(One of the few malls I've frequented is the D2TK. There is a signboard with all the shops in the complex then when you click on the shop you want...a chair rezzes and it transports you in style to your destination.)

Some mentioned the coordinates listed in the search result, but don't bother wandering around. Open the map, click "search" so it puts focus on the senter of the sim you are in. Then enter the coordinates of the item and either choose telepoert or show location. Usually you will be told you cannot be teleported closer, so I prefer just to go by "show location" and then follow the red arrow.

you walk towards that arrow, or use your camera and zoom to the spot it's pointing at. wish it was that easy in rl. all the grocery stores here are always busy, wish i could just alt+zoom to the other side of the store and buy the item i need lol but instead i have to play frogger in the crowd of people and shopping carts

Yes, the list of objects and coordinates is one good feature in the new search. I still miss the old search because it had "Show on map" which I found very useful to avoid TPing into the middle 60 green dots and getting trapped.

I can still get "show on map" by going to the profile of the owner in their picks but this is a little overly cautious.

Shopping malls used to lag me so much I'd have to clear cache and log out and back in just to move. Now I can handle them okay with a better computer. But doesn't it seem to be the same old stuff in every mall, just like real life? I too like the more obscure or esoteric content of smaller shops.

That is the very reason I don't bother shopping at malls any longer. If what I am looking for isn't right in front of my face I don't bother. Why should I have to bother with coordinates and such nonsense to find someone to pay money to?
