There's an anime convention coming up this week called Otakon. I've been attending for some time now, but I'll never forget what I saw the first year I went.

A table showcasing Second Life!

This had to be back in 2003 or 2002. They had a computer set up with what looked like the orientation castle that is now in Dore and were showing off how you could create avatars. I definitely remember them pulling out a sailor moon avatar with a prim head (waaay before sculpties - but it looked pretty good!).

It was really cool, but I turned down signing up . I think I misunderstood them, because I got the impression the monthly fees were for normal play and not just to own land. I wasn't big on online gaming back then (and didn't have the money for it). But man... I would give anything to go back in time and jump on board right then and there.

Did anyone here ever attend otakon back then and see this? And perhaps more importantly, which Lindens were there? I'd like to know which ones I actually met in person :D

It would be very surprising if Philip himself wasn't there. He's always kinda been the chief evangelist, especially in the early years.

If you're going to Otakon, don't miss one of my favorite webcomic artists, Garth Graham. See his work at http://www.comedity.com
