Yeah, good luck with that. Most of us are trying to eliminate camping for traffic. It's a huge waste of resources.

Thanks for the response...

I'm just not sure what else to do... We have a group list of almost 1,000 people, tons of games, good music, events and other stuff, but can't for the life of me figure out how to get more people in and make them stay. We also have about 20 billboards spread over SL... If you have any suggestions I'm all ears... Thanks.

Well, if you can't get them to stay then that is a fairly clear indicator that you haven't yet found the right combination of content that people are interested in enjoying....

Maybe I should turn this into a poll of what people want?

Was just at Club Bounce. I a assuming that is the place you have. Might want to update the pics list in your profile. Goes to an old location.I didn't see any reason to stay around. There is no one there. You have plenty of dance poles but no one using them. Clubs that have regulars are interested in their staff. Get some flirty decent looking girls on the poles and give people a reason to come back.
Camping is setting yourself up for disappointment. All they will do is sit on the camp devices, take your money and leave. Not a good way to gain a regular customer base. I is not easy to run a club these days. There are thousands of them just like yours. Have to do something better than the rest to get good consistent traffic. _____________________

can't for the life of me figure out how to get more people in and make them stay. It's true camping can help lure people to your place by artificially inflating your traffic number and improving your position in search results. But that comes at a cost. A lot of people dislike camping enough that they will refuse to do business with a place that supports it, and even people who don't care will suffer from the lag it causes... both of which mean that camping will actually HURT your ability to retain legitimate customers/visitors (legitimate meaning the ones who came to give you business or enjoy your services). I'm sure a lot of your problem is just that there is a lot of competition in the field of entertainment venues, and it is VERY hard to succeed with them (just like RL). |

1 linden every 24 hours. lol
it pays so low - repairing socks for people in real life is a better option. its not a way to make lindens, the anti logout thingy will cost more than you can recoup. never mind electricity to operate your computer, it cost more than the best camping rates pay. be green save SL and the world, just buy a few linden, its not much money ...... 20 billboards spread over SL... !!!!!!! Maybe that why no one visits, just a thought _____________________

Best memories I had with camping was a place where I could play scramble earn enough for my next texture upload and have place where I could met and talk to people whenever I was too tired of working on skills, friends weren't online and closest friends that I have had for entire year were from there.
We only got 1L for getting right word and 3L/10. In return we helped new players in shop and had good time. But as I got older I realized the owner wasn't doing this out of kindness towards community and they moved to a island and became more about them making money then making it fun place to hang out. I really wish there were still places like that in SL still. _____________________

Thanks for all the thoughts. We are in the process of hiring dancers who stick around and work more, but I have to respect this is SL - Who wants to stay on a pole and work for pennies at a time?
The camping actually is working so far... We just put it in on Friday and have had more action out of our games and the dancers are hanging around more because of the people in the club, which allows them to be there to greet "actual" customers who come in... It's an odd cycle I guess... I'm sorry Jaydee didn't think we stood out, although I know the fact no employees were there really hurt, but I think we have a lot of fun things to do... From our "Mystic" lounge to the Bouncy Castle - To all of the fun games and seasonal themed outside - To the bumper boats and many ways to make some extra Lindens... There's toms to do. I think he is right though... We need employees to stay and keep the customers company. For me I'm not expecting to make money, just not lose any... I like having a place for people to come hang out and have fun. I guess time will tell... |

Since gambling is no more, 8L/per hour seems to be kind of average. You could make the camping pads into dancing platforms, so the avatars blend in with the club scene. I would limit the number of them to about 5.

Just curious, when you say "games" you don't mean gambling devices, do you?

I have a friend with a club, a club with over 25k in non-camped traffic right now, and she's fond of saying that there's a critical mass of live people you need at a place to keep that place going. If you have under that number of people, folks may show up but they move on quickly because, as JayDee says above, it's boring to be there by yourself. Once you get to that magic number of people there, folks that show up tend to stay a bit longer and see what's going on. Even when people do eventually leave, if they stay long enough to keep over the critical mass, you'll do ok..
Relying on camping really does set yourself up to lose. People will show up and see that it's a bad zombie movie (where the zombies don't even attack, let alone groan "braaaains.." instead of somewhere interesting/fun to be. They almost always bring nothing to the table except a drain on your L$ and obviously-inflated traffic stats..What the critical mass number is and how you get to it depends totally based on what kind of place it is and what kind of people you want there. Sorry - I know that's not a ton of help. ![]() edit: ok.. product idea.. a camping device with a cheezy zombie animation.. make the device a vehicle that slowly follows a pre-defined track around your area, possibly using a set of rectangles that define where they can go and a cheap/slow sensor that makes them move towards non-camping visitors. Bored with campers that sit around? Get real life (sic) zombie campers! edit edit: hm.. maybe not.. it's a silly idea. _____________________

Camping? You'll have nothing but bots enjoying your club.
Try some live music events instead. _____________________

Trying to make a club work in SL is a competition in a HIGHLY competitive market and, unless you can come up with something that people enjoy and that hasn't been done to death already, you're going to struggle to even break even.
Having campers in the place, as others have said, is not a draw - ok, so you look better on the old-style search, but the place doesn't start becoming vibrant and encourage people to stay, which is presumably what you want. My advice would be to do some thorough market research - talk to people that frequent clubs and ask THEM what would draw them to a club - what would make your club different? It's then that aspect that you would want to promote. _____________________

camping AND ad-farms. the best of both worlds. ![]() the sim i used to own land on .. a club opened ... 15 camping/dancing pads ... no one was ever there except the campers .. and most were "away". they folded in a month. I, and I suspect many others, do not support businesses that camp and rely on ad farms. Camping not only hurts a business but the people living around one as it uses resources. However, to each their own. One good business model -- create something you love and are passionate about. Share the joy. Word of mouth is also the best advertising (if you have a great place, a small group visits and loves it, they'll bring more friends, who bring more friends, and so on). Good luck. _____________________

aving campers in the place, as others have said, is not a draw - ok, so you look better on the old-style search, but the place doesn't start becoming vibrant and encourage people to stay, which is presumably what you want. It's easy to get people to come to a place. It is much harder to get them to stay. This is what everyone, from this club owner, to me working on an island with a friend, to every corporation who built a sim. I personally dun go to the clubs, myself. But I know when I see obvious camping, I'm turned off an leave, 'less it's something I *really* want or need. Oh, an billboards dun normally rez for me, anyway. Mari _____________________
