I have noticed that they seem to be rigged to only select certain letters. Someone told me they are usually set to only accept certain letters more often than others. Is this true, do they have scripts that do that where say the letter D only comes up say once and hour and the letter Q comes up 3 or more times.
I only ask because it seems like my letter never ever comes up and I see certain letters come up all the time.

It depends on the place. I don't think anyone sets it up that way, but some places 'seem to' have certain letters appear more often than other letters in their chairs.
I see "T" fairly often at Vixen (hair.)

My letters never come up either!
I don't know if the scripts are rigged or not, but I would expect letters like "Q" and "X" to stay on a lucky chair longer than something like "A" or "E" because they're less likely to be claimed. It could give the impression those letters are picked more frequently.

It is just the streaky nature of pseudo-random number generators. You see the same thing in WoW rolling for loot. I did see a chair on time that when it drew a "?" it would not accept anyone because their name did not start with a question mark But all in all, it is just perception and the quirky nature of "random" numbers.

I wouldn't consider it rigging, but what could be scripted is that when I letter is hit, that is someone sits on it, it's weight drops by a set number of points which are spread across the weights of the other letters. The script would not have to be that much more involved to have this feature added.

I own a few of Shep Korvin's lucky chairs, and there is no facility for the owner to set any letters to occur oftener than others. We can set 'wildcards' where any avatar can win to never, seldom or frequent, and we can set the time between letter changes, assuming no-one has won. That is all we can alter, so far as I know.

I have one that has Wild Cards "?" and it works fine. There is no list of letters to display more than others. My chair is set to 5 minute refresh and frequent Wild Cards. Nothing would make me happier than for everyone to win! I have about 5 different prizes in the chair too.

same here I have some of sheps and nothing in there allows me to set one letter more frequent than another (not that I would if I could)
I also have some from another place, which I no longer use, but have used, which also do not allow specific letter settings

Given that there's no cost to participate in a lucky chair, it's not clear that there's anything wrong with using unequal distributions.
The only way to tell for sure, without inspecting the code, is to do a statistical analysis.

Except if the letters are always Q and X, people will stop coming to the chairs. It's in the operator's interest to at least make people think it's not fixed.

What I don't get is the shops that hide the chair away from their product. What's more use to you? A stack of newbies in an isolated room driving up your traffic waiting on a chair... Or a stack of newbies surrounded by your best work, or your low price work, or some handy theme, ALSO driving up traffic waiting on a chair, with nothing to do but examine all your posters of items for sale...

Unless your avatars are named Quinn and Xochitl. Which, if I were making a human avatar, would be smart picks if I wanted to win all the chairs.

I tend not to shop in stores with lucky chairs, but have noticed that nearly always when I see one it is on W - which seems to be goading me, hehe

I wish they would let you use the letter of your last name also.

i agree on the last letter, my friend her name starts with D and everywhere she goes her letter literally never comes up she is more likely to win a prize if it is a universal symbol like @ or ?

It all depends on the store you're at and the make of the chair. For me, it seems letter D is always up, even when i'm not in the mood to mess with it. Last 3 times I've been to Yummy's store it's been up, and I think the same at sn@tch. I can't go anywhere near Goldie Locks because D always comes up, and I wind up getting some over-anxious chair hound following me around while I shop, informing me every 15 seconds that D is on the chair. I just wanna tell them "look missy, I'm extremely picky, not overly fond of chair items, and I've dumped my inventory at 30K items 3 times in 3 years.. I don't need it."

From: Kylie Jaxxon Haha, well they want to get rid of the D fast, so the next letter (hopefully theirs) cycles up sooner. This. Just sit on the chair and then delete the item. You'll do them all a service. Sometimes life works best when you do random nice things for people. Some of my best SL friends came about that way. Or if its trans, target the nearest newbie and toss it at them. Some of the best items I own came from chairs. Some designers actually put their good work into freebies and not their cheap stuff - so you know early on that that is a person to remember. Obviously you don't want to put you're entire line into cycling freebies like at least one place I go to, but some good stuff in there goes a long way towards telling people you put out quality.

Argent Stonecutter uses a really wonderful innovation on the lucky chair. it switches between first letter of your first name or your last name, as well as the LAST letter of your first or last name. it's a much more fun set up. back when i was busy bloating my already overextended inventory, Lucky Chairs were a definite crapshoot for me. for the longest time i never saw any that came up with numbers, and only a few accepted 23 as a name beginning with "T".

I've seen some that occasionally pop up "0-9" as the letter.
I need to get the tuit and finish turning my "Crazy Chair" into a real product.
