You don't have to pay the setup fee if you convert your sim to an island. You will have increased tier. They /may/ be able to clone your sim though. Probably not the prims though, just the terrain.

Okay, I am missing how this works then. My apologies.

from the KB article...

If your parcel is larger than 16,384 m^2, you can request movement to a Private Region (island) instead. We will discount the Private Region setup fee (normally US$1,000) based on the amount of land you own. For example, if you have 32,768 m^2, you would pay $500 for the setup fee. If you have 49,152 m^2, you would pay $250 for the set-up fee. The regular monthly land fees of $295 will be charged 30 days after the move.
There will be a separate ticket type specifically to request this sort of move.

... So that is, the more you own the less you pay.. up to a full sim which would have to pay 0?

I finally get the logic to that. It just wasn't so clear to understand. At first I thought that meant they were going to divide private regions among divisible plot owners, each paying a portion of the setup fee for that island.. like a mini mainland almost. I did not at first get that they were saying 'step up to a whole private region'... the ... "request movement to a" is what threw me.

That's how I understand it.

Although the extra tier cost is obviously a pain you may find in the end that the extra features on a private estate make up for it somewhat.

The extra features help. I don't know that they help 100$ worth, but they help. It would be nice if there were a 3 month grace period before the tier went up though, long enough for sales to hopefully bounce back after all the disruption.

Hard to swallow that I am going to be shut down, moved, have my time and income impacted, get a server and software configuration I paid a lot of money for taken without refund and in the end I am expected to pay LL more each month just for the privilege of it all.
