ctrl alt shift D to open the advanced menu (it will show up next to the help menu)

then go to character, and at the bottom, rebake

(may or may not need the shift to open the menu, I need it so habit to add it)

There's a command on the Advanced > Character menu called Rebake, or just press [Ctrl][Alt]-R that re-loads or re-"bakes" all the visible textures of your avatar. It doesn't always work but often it does.

Baking refers to the way all the various layers you are wearing are fused into one layer, so everyone needn't download all your clothing layers. After you change you can see things momentarily blur, then become clear again - that's the baking.

/me creates shortbread T shirts and chocolate chip trousers ;-D
