I can't find a thread listing the alternate SL Clients in Search...I heard about a few, and I could use one...all the names escape me. If you use a user-made version of the Client that's a lot easier on the hardware, plz let me know, thanks.

...well I found SLeek, but isn't there one that's SLIGHTLY more graphical? Just a bare-bones graphical viewer? --no fog, foot shadows, clouds, "hidden weather/rain", etc?

[EDIT]

OpenLife goes through the regular SL Client too, if that's the reason I'm not getting a single response to this question, this isn't a "rehash".

Most of my SL clients have been fairly slim, about 7' tall and in newbie skin. I just try to be polite and give them an experience to remember. :D

Slimmer clients are generally meant for one of two things...using SL as a chat program or running bots. Neither has the goal of simply running normally with fewer resources.

Best way to get a slim viewer without sacrificing all graphics... go to your Edit menu, select Preferences... adjust settings in Graphics Detail and Adv. Graphics to the lowest settings. Voila, viewer with great performance and speed!

I use the "Nicholaz Edition" of the viewer that you can get from:
http://nicholaz-beresford.blogspot.com

It's not stripped down in the way you mean, just patched for bugs by a talented guy who made squashing bugs his personal mission. I find it works more quickly and stably than anything LL put out.

P.S. the forum is automatically parsing my url, unfortunately it isn't actually turning it into a url in preview mode....

It doesn't seem like there are any yet, but libsecondlife has a rendering engine on the way :D
There's no documentation about how to render SL prims, and LL are only just now working on re-licensing the code that explains how it's done: http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/MISC-881

Thanks for the help (to everybody who actually responded to the question)

[EDIT] Damn! There's no current version of Nicholaz browser that's compatible with the versions LL has up now, hope that gets fixed soon, sounds good!

*gasps* I answered your question!

"[EDIT] Damn! There's no current version of Nicholaz browser that's compatible with the versions LL has up now, hope that gets fixed soon, sounds good!"

As to this, I was on last night using a Nicholaz viewer, the same I've been using for a couple months, so I'm not sure really what you mean.

Nicholaz hasn't done 1.19 yet, and won't be doing so for a while. I'm content to stay at 1.18 BE-v for now. The new viewer just sounds like a mess.

Hmm. I should comb through the site again...I didn't even see one that was compatible with version 1.18.5.3

[EDIT]

Ah...no wonder, I got the one listed under "experimental"...sorting through his directories again now

I tried Nicholz on my slow machine and it was not much better than the regular SL client. I'm still going with Sleek.
