I'm sure someone already has asked this question. But you know when you talking in 2L and your AV does the typing animation. Is there a way to turn that off so your hands don't move when you chat.

Yes there is. Someone will be along shortly to tell you how. You have to set something as "false" from your dropdown menu. I'm not online and forget how to do it, but it is possible.

Client/Debug/PlayTypeAnim/False

If you don't already have access to the Client menu,
MAC = COMM/alt/shift/D
PC, not sure(?) CTRL/shift/D

:)

You are awesome. Forgot to add that you can put on certain AO's (animation overrides) to get rid of the typing also.

Yep that's the one... I remember it from Torley's tip of the week, some weeks ago....

Just / is enough, but turning it off in teh debug is even easier. :)

So, I'm not criticizing, but just curious: Wouldn't communication be much more difficult without the chat animation, signifying someone is about to say something? I think it's there to compensate for all the problems associated with the time delay in typing.

I also think it's really cute. It's SOOO Second Life.

Having the typing animation off can be very confusing in normal conversation, certainly. But at llive music events for instance, the clicking is really annoying.
That's why I have it turned off as standard and only turn the typing to true if I see it's causing confusion.

It's also nice to turn off the animation when you want to have a private IM with someone and you don't want others to know you're talking to that person.

The animation doesn't work for IMs AFAIK

I didnt know about that area at all, the area where you turned it off. Doing a bit of digging around now...glad I saw this.

I think I will end up leaving the chat animation off, it doesnt work consistantly anyway. There are times I am typing and my av doesnt, and times I'm not and my av does. People never know with me lol

Right Sally, it doesn't run in IM, and it doesn't need to. For one, you get a "so and so is typing" message. You also don't run the risk of the person saying "Bye" and walking away before you're done typing, because they get your IM no matter where you are.

Somehow related, I read somewhere that instead of the typing animation, you can use overrides. Now, the laptops I have seen everywhere, but what I found lovely was something like you'd conjure up a ball of energy between your hands, with letters streaming from it. That looked absolutely awesome - anybody ever seen that inworld and knows where to get it?

not that particular one... I have one where you are surounded by swirling symbols and reach out to touch them... those anims have to be a higher priority than the default typing anim (which I think is 2, there's a list in anim tips)

After using /0 once, you can then use // instead (until you chat on a different / channel)... ;)

I find it very annoying if I can't see that someone is typing. I'm likely to think they've stopped talking and leave, when in fact they are just putting together a long sentence.

You can suppress the animation just by using a high-priority pose in your AO, without inhibiting the typing "state".
