What kind of features would you like to see in a standalone SL chat client?

Only chat
)The idea is great, i need this product but i will NEVER use it ! The big problem is that i need to enter my login & password in YOUR software and I don't know you. So it's possible for you to save logins & passwords and take our money. _____________________

I don't think you'd need to enter your SL password. It could be set up so that users first logon inworld and touch an object to get a password just for the chat client, similar in a way to how zonkster works.

I would not trust anything that is 3rd party to SL. The guy is right. SL deals with money and you would have to be a fool to install anything claiming to do anything with SL that does not come from SL.
Then again... Look at all the people still asking what Ginko bonds are worth, lmao. _____________________

If you can do it without me having to provide my SL password to your software ...
All I need is my friends list, or the ability to create a list, and chat. I would like to be able to put an avatar photo up, so I can at least look at a picture of the person I'm chatting with. |

What's Ginko ? Chat software ?? Yes, specifically forum chat software. If you install it correctly you'll meet an infinite number of Nick P alts. However, you'll need a degree in advanced psychology to handle the babble. |

What if the third party was approved by SL? You would obviously have to enter your username and password to login to SL through the client but all communications could be encrypted with ssl.

If you're planning on asking people to enter their SL login details then I agree with the other posters I would not use it. Apart from that it's really unlikely that LL would approve it anyway.

Once again, if it were approved by the Lindens would you use it?

If it were an open source project with a few different people developing it, perhaps. I could then scan the code myself to make sure I trust it.
It would definitely be a great to have. Hmmm, there's already an email interface to IMs. Perhaps a thin wrapper to that instead? Something to pretty up the emails and make it look and feel more like chat... That would mean entering an email account password instead of an SL password. Love. |

Doesn't SLEEK already handle chat? yes it does, but hangs from time to time. I have tested it with an alt; but don't use it for my main account because of login/password. _____________________

What we need is an external client that can talk through an "object" - For say I leave a "Robot" at a reception desk, and I cannot be on SL client through work, but would be interested in talking through this object

What kind of features would you like to see in a standalone SL chat client? I'd love it if I could drop an object on my land, and I could use the standalone SL chat client to communicate with folks within chat range of the object as if I were there in-world ![]() _____________________

IMs for me are a necessary evil, used sparingly. Of course you have to use them to get in contact with someone not in your proximity, but when people want to have whole conversations over IM, I start thinking, "Okay, here I am basically AOL-ing with someone, so then what is all this 3-D Second Life stuff for?"
So I don't have any interest in any IM anything, to answer the question. -Avion |

This is for people who cannot get in world at the time and would liek to communicate with those IN WORLD That's even worse. Then I'm AOL-ing with people who aren't even in the SL universe at the time. I will admit that there would be times when that would be useful though. So don't let me stop progress. |
