textures for railings/banisters for staircases

the rails obviously need to be canted to a 45 degree angle to look right on a staircase

lots of textures out there for railings that go on a flat surface but nothing around that we can find for stairs . in a Victorian style would be ideal ..

Any suggestions ? Thanks in advance :)

how about making it yourself, using a graphical program?
It's not that hard to do. :)

Not sure if it's quite what you need, but there is a full set of seamless 45° railings/bannisters in a Victorian style in Robin Sojourner's "Wheel Porch" texture set available at http://slurl.com/secondlife/Livingtree/115/87/25 - click through the previewer there, or see some of them on the gazebo stairs at http://slurl.com/secondlife/Livingtree/92/50/22

the great thing about the resident answers forums are how people seem to really enjoy helping their fellow residents with problems they are having. and then there are the ones with post counts well into the thousands. they post smart ass coments, take shots at people for making spelling or gramatical errors and just seem to enjoy posting because they feel everyone wants to hear what they have to say.
and no i dont care if their are any spelling mistakes, typos or other things wrong with the above statement.

May I suggest the following as another way of helping with a problem? :D

Another solution to the sloping rail/fence/wall issue is to use top shear to angle the prim and then rotate to restore the vertical.

If you rez a cube in front of you place the railing texture on the faces facing you and opposite.
Use Y top shear then X rotation.

Works for me for store bought and home made rails and fences.

I make tons of typos and am well known for them- I didn't see the typo when I wrote that- did now- i really thought you were saying something that i didnt recognize. As for Xstreet - you might be surprised- some people arent aware of the site. I thought suggesting that was rather more helpful than 'make some' - since if u knew how to make them you would have, rather than ask where to buy.

If you're looking to have a bannister with uprights supporting it, and thougt about using a texture with transparency (alpha), maybe try making a sculpty instead? The Sculptie o Matic tool in world could probably come in handy for such a thing, and the demo is free to use in the official sandbox :)

Texturing is still a nightmare (although something that is going to be worked on soon apparently) but it might work out OK depending on quite how you want the finished item to look.

There are not that many railing textures out there. I have a set of marble ones, but that's about it, and they weren't easy to find.

There are, however, the links others provided...and there are ways to make low prim railings, and/or your own rail textures.

Textures:

1. Use a window texture, one that is simple. Just a frame, or a simple double hung window. Put the texture on its side, slap it on your railing prim, and use top shear as suggested to get the rail to angle correctly.

2. Make your own. In GIMP or Photoshop, make a simple rectangular frame, with maybe a few narrow vertical stripes, and a transparent background. Save as a .png file and import.

Prim railings:

3. Keep the verticals widely spaced. I've made attractive banisters with just three prims, a vertical one at the top and bottom, and a hand rail.

4. Make the high prim railing, with all the verticals you want. Then take a photo of it against a plain white background, and use the photo as a texture for a one-prim railing.
