This is a graphics bug. There has been several JIRA issues reported on this. It has something to do with ATI cards

Exactly.
A method to (temporarily) get rid of them, is by going to your preferences for SL, then the Graphics tab, and switching atmospheric shaders on and off (or off and on, whichever you prefer).
This makes your graphics card restart the calculations that cause this problem, basically letting you walk around with a clean slate for a little while.

As a sidenote: I found the triangles (or vertices) come up more often at altitudes above ~100 meters than below that, but don't ask me why, just something I noticed.

Weird triangles are generally a symptom of 'you needing to download the latest updates for your graphics card'. I had a similar problem with an ATI card which was resolved with an update download; but which then caused a heap of problems elsewhere on my computer not least when I tried to use Qavimator. I solved the problem by replacing the card with an NVidea card. Now I have a similar problem with my other computer - a Mac using OS..uh will it never end.

I would suggest going to the support web site of your graphics card and downloading the latest updates first of all.

Go to:

>Preferences
>>Graphics Tab

Try turning off Basic Shaders.

If that does not work. Click the Hardware Options Button (from the graphics tab) and turn off "Enable OpenGL Vertex Buffer Objects".

My mothers computer has an ATI 300 card (or some low number like that) and gives me the same problems i see in the pic you posted. Turning off one of those 2 items totally gets rid of it.

Hope that helps!
