Apparently, Apple filed a patent application two years ago for the kind of shopping experiences we routinely have in SL. I haven't read through all 56 pages of the application, but some of the things it covered on just page 1 seem way too generalized and too broad in scope for my taste. If the patent is granted, it seems that at least some of what we do in SL might become Apple's exclusive property.

Thoughts?

I would say that their patent application is too late. My "art" has been sold at Leather Kisses since the spring of 2004. There were many other stores here before that. I'd say Apple doesn't stand a chance.

That's typical.

In a patent application, you claim the entire world, and then let the lawyers whittle you down.

How long does the patent on a general concept (as opposed to a specific creation) last? It can't be indefinite, otherwise there would only be one brand of vacuum cleaner on the market and one brand of cola.
