Gray textures ... will they ever end?

Will there ever be an end to gray textures?

If I break down and finally buy a better video card, will the gray textures vanish, leaving me feeling bad for having endured them needlessly for so long? Or will the gray textures remain, leaving me feeling bad due to a uncompensated reduction in my checking account balance?

Are they caused by Comcast, or is it a result of that bad router in Houston that's shown up in the Broadband Reports Hall of Shame for the past 14 years?

Not an all-out cure, but ImagePipelineUseHTTP does seem to make the texture downloads a little less shy about completing.

I went to the the ImagePipelineUseHTTP variable and it was showing TRUE, suggesting that I have set it to TRUE in the past and forgotten about it completely.

So I'll try it on false for awhile.

It would be nice to know if my experience regarding the gray textures is normal or abnormal.

It would be upsetting to buy a whole new computer and still have all the plants look like pieces of gray card board stuck through each other and the building look like gray cardboard pretty much every time you go anywhere.

It a surefire immersion stopper having the unreality and non-persistence of the place hit you in the head with a gray textured sledgehammer over and over.

When the network connection goes flakey, the kinda thing Comcast likes to force on their customers when they use their connection, SL tends to get unhappy. Similar to the problems that people who use wireless LANs seem to get. I'd guess that if you're seeing gray but other things are ok, it's one of the few things you can't blame on Comcast.

My home sim frequently, like once an hour or so lately, gets a stuck download queue. When this happens, anything that's gray is going to stay gray and anything that hasn't been rezzed recently isn't going to rez. After a few-to-5 minutes, the queue empties out and things start working again.

You sure this it's not a stuck download queue?
