Opening 'object' in lost & found folder

Hey guys,

I know about the "coallesce" feature whereby if a few objects are returned to you from the same sim, they end up being sent back as 1 package. (Before you ask... they didn't rez, so I couldn't see them and couldn't take them back!)

I tried to open "Object" but when I click on the box, the menu has no option to open, only to wear or copy or edit. Any idea how to unpack it? Any help would be much appreciated :)

all you can do is rez

opening an object allows you to view what is inside it, and to do that you must rez the object first

what do you mean by they did not rez? is the object still in your lost and found folder?

If so go to a sandbox and in edit mode try again, to see if they will rez this time

I meant the first time, when I was trying to open the box containing the dress, it didn't rez. So when I left the sim, the sim returned it... bundled with another box containing shoes. It's now 2 boxes in 1. The new box is called 'object'.

I rezzed 'object' and got a box. When I clicked on the box to 'open', there was no option to 'open'. Only to edit, wear, take a copy, delete. So I can't see what is inside and can't take out the stuff :(

Have you looked in the "contents" tab under edit?

when you rezzed it do you remember if the icon in the lost and found folder looked like a cube or multiple cubes

if it was a single cube then it was just a box, and not the item you purchased.

check your transaction history for the name of the item you purchased then try a search in your inventory for that item, it is possible it was returned to a different folder than the lost and found.

If the object in the lost and found had the multi cube icon, then it means it was multiple objects, and they could be a little distance apart.
do you remember where you were when you rezzed the last time?
you can always go back there and see if you can find it using the edit window, then drag and select around the area (with select only my objects selected in your tools window)

and if it did not give the option to open in the pie menu, then yes, that means the object was empty.
looking in the contents tab would just confirm it was empty.

Becareful opening objects named ''object'' in your lost and found. you never know what they contain and could be releasing a spamming griefing replicating object out onto the grid.

Very very true.

I'm more wary of things called object in my inv as they could be quite literally anything - I truly need to go just open them with the group tag off at home so I can delete them all into an empty lost and found by returning them. So many bits of plywood.

It does sound like JUST the box got returned in this case tho.

the only way that would happen, is if you had the spamming, griefing replicating object to begin with

lost and found is object that you already owned and either rezzed, or purchased and did not pick it up (usually that goes to objects though, but sometimes lost and ofund)

When you rez a coallesced object, do it with the build tools already activated, and with the limit for select distance turned off. This will cause the rezzed items to all be selected when they rez. The individual parts will all still be the same distance apart and same relative positions as when they rezzed. So if one was a cube on the ground, and another was a box of shoes at 500M up in a skybox, you'd only see the cube on the ground. But if both are still selected, the movement arrows for the selected group will be at the mid-point between the parts.

Yep but if you were unwary and had it ...

(Moral = be careful who you accept things from in the first place, I guess)

Ceera is right. This is how I ended up with a swimming pool and a load of palm trees in midair the other day. However ... at least I finally found that pool.

Wow, so much to think about. Thanks for all the responses!

Yes I did. There was nothing there.

It was a single cube.
So you're saying I should look for something with an icon that looks like multiple cubes? I saw that too... but it was named after one of my inventory items (not the one I lost) so I thought that wasn't it. I'll try to rez that one and see. Thanks!

Thanks for the tip, Ceera. This is so useful to know! :)

My goodness, that is scary. I'll be more careful about this now. Thanks for letting me know. I had no idea.

the one with multiple cubes means it is more than one item, so being sure to rez in edit mode is a good idea (that way they are all selected when you rez it)

if you are looking for a specific item, and can not find it then yes, rez the one with multiple cubes, it could be grouped with that
