I like to use the JASC media centre which came with my version of paint shop pro to catalogue all the sound clips, photos, and other media files on my pcs hard drive, my cds etc. I simply ask the media centre to go through any given directory and it stores all media files as thumbnails in an 'album'. Click the thumbnail and you get to see, hear or view the file it represents.
It strikes me that an 'album' which can be used 'in-world' to search my inventory and store snapshots, textures and sounds would be a real boon to inventory organisation.
Does anyone know if such an item is available ?

I've just purchased a texture organiser inworld and it's pretty cool if you have a huge number of textures like I do It rezzes surprisingly quickly, with either one texture showing or 16 thumbnails. If you want to know where it's from and get a notecard about it send me an IM and when I'm online I'll send the info over.

From: Johan Laurasia I think there's a few different texture organizers out there, but the limitation I see would be the length of time it would take for the textures to load into the organizer since everything would be coming from the asset servers. Loading textures into an organizer takes almost no time at all, just a second or two for a whole batch usually. It doesn't take any more time than copying a bunch of stuff into an item's contents folder. (Obviously it does take a lot of time to manually go through and organize the textures before loading them.) When you rez an organizer, the textures currently being displayed are downloaded to your client just like textures on any old prim around you. For some strange reason, and I totally don't get why this is, rezzing textures this way (displayed on a prim) is WAY faster than viewing it directly from the inventory. Of course, though texture organizers are very useful, they certainly are not the automatic process the OP is hoping for. And they only do textures. I've got another organizer to quick-display sculpties, and many animation-cycling pose stands can be used to quick view animations, but again, loading them up is all a manual process. For those considering purchasing a texture organizer, I suggest looking at the extensive review I did of what's currently available: /109/64/210791/1.html
