Sorry for the newbie question, but is it possible to know when you're being watched even in a private room/building?

nope the camera can be rotated into a building, the only way u can possibly tell is sensors to see how far away people are

Or are you just saying your best bet is sensors that show when one is near by but theres no way of knowing if theyre zoomed in..

To be scared for other watching you - leave SL at once.. -)))
The only way to not be that are to own an own sim and make it non visible plus only allow people to it that your know/trust... and yes they are many today.. many many many...
Good Luck.. be brave..

Just like in real life you can never be 100% sure that someone isn't watching you be it through a hidden camrea or such.

Under the client menu I believe it is, you can actually see where someoen is looking but since the game is down I can't tell you precisely. It's easier when there are fewer people around than in a large crowd.

with 'disable camera constraints' enabled under the client menu you can see anywhere in the region you are in, so if you are not alone in the region you could always be being watched

Client-Character-Show Look At
A crosshair is visible for you, anyone near you and anyone that may be watching.
Doesn't matter where they are etc...

From: Falcon Hesse Client-Character-Show Look At A crosshair is visible for you, anyone near you and anyone that may be watching. Doesn't matter where they are etc... This takes a bit of practice and experiemetning with, but does as Falcon says. Pink crosshairs are locked onto a place/avatar, blue corsshairs are a person moving thier mouse, green is the "semi-lock" of where an avatars eyes are pointing, and grey is the default "stare straight ahead" look. If a person is AFK, or set to BUSY then they have no crosshairs. Also note that multiple crosshairs overlap each other so you can't tell if one person, or 40 is locked onto an object/avatar with thier camera view. ~Jessy

The best you can do is to count the crosshairs, and if there are more crosshairs than you have people in the room, then someone is spying on you.

The best you can do is to count the crosshairs, and if there are more crosshairs than you have people in the room, then someone is spying on you. The crosshairs don't work reliably. That shows where your avatar's view is aimed via alt-zoom, &c. But your camera can be offset from that, using the camera controls. Turn it on, try it, then move (not turn) your camera view to the left via the controls. The crosshairs stay where the last alt-zoom put them, but your view is elsewhere. At least this is how it was in May when I last checked.

When I started SL I streaked in 4 nightclubs, after which I calmed down but it means that I couldn't care less if i'm being watched now!

For some reason, I'm reminded of a quote: "Just because i'm Paranoid, It doesn't mean they Aren't out to get me."
I don't think Anyone has yet developed a Script that Blocks free passage of Cameras. IS it Possible?

There is very little anyone can realy tell from just watching your AV. If someone is getting a kick or more out of me going about my regular routien then they live a very boring life. For me the real concern is who is with in chat range. If someone is listening in to my private conversations, that's where the real breach of privacy is.
