Hello everyone.

My first post so please be gentle :)

I've tried searching for these questions but I've not really found a conclusive answer yet...

First question is about Alt avatars.

I never thought about "alt" avatars until someone mentioned the idea to me - I assumed it must be against the rules, but then I've seen alot of threads here, and even a post on the official SL blog that seems to support the idea that having an Alt is ok.

I've been in SL with the same Av since I started just over a year ago, and I've become 'attached' to it in a way - I would hate to find my primary account banned because I broke the rules in this area.

My second question is about contact information.

I dont seem to have a way to update this information or to even check what I put in when I registered - is there a way to get this information updated/corrected without having to go through a support ticket?

I'm just trying to make sure I'm following the rules in SL :) I've tried to read/search the forums and the ToS about these questons but I cant seem to find anything that tells me one way or the other.

Any help very much appreciated.

You can find the rules about alt accounts here:

https://support.secondlife.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=4417

Basicly, you're allowed five alts per household.

Contact info can be changed on the website, log in at secondlife.com and pick "Contact Info" from the left hand side bar. The only contact info you put in when signing up is the e-mail address.

Ohh thanks alot - I had found that "5 per household" rule elsewhere but I wasn't sure if it was true or not... Its nice to have it confirmed :)

I mainly just wanted another Av to test out scripts that take more than one Av's input... it will make things alot easier to use an Alt account to test than having to bug a friend all the time :)

Thanks again for your help :)

When I click on the link it takes me to the opening page, not to the page for the alt faq.

https://support.secondlife.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=4417&task=knowledge&questionID=4201 should take you to the alt faq.

Yep I managed to find it after a bit of looking :) Thanks

Also, the blog post I referred to was the multiple viewers one -

http://blog.secondlife.com/2008/01/10/tip-of-the-week-17-how-to-run-multiple-viewers-at-the-same-time/

When I asked a friend, he said that I shouldnt run two accounts at the same time but I'm thinking he might have been mistaken? because otherwise there wouldnt be much point in the blog post I think :)

Edit: Also... it says about paying extra money for accounts but I'm not sure where you're supposed to do that?

Five alts per household? I thought it was five per e-mail address. If it's the former, why would LL allow some people to have armies consisting of upwards of 50 traffic bot alts?

Probably because they think they have very limited possibilities to really prove that you're above the "five per household limit"...
Shouldn't be that hard really, if they are created with the same e-mail address and are online from the same IP address, the case is pretty clear!

I thing that if you can't remember the details that you used on signup, then you broke the rules on day one. If the detail used were full and true then there should not be a huge issue in remembering them.

If it's the case that you switch email addresses a lot, then you can retriecve the email currently used for the account from the SecondLife.com website

You're right, but hindsight is the only perfect science - I surely can't be the only one who was a little cautious about giving information out when I first signed up?

Or are you telling me that you've always used full and correct information whenever you sign up anywhere online? If so you must have fun sifting through the junk mail in the mornings and answering telemarketer calls all day ?

Secondly, I moved twice last year, three times in the last two years, I'm more or less settled now but I'm not certain which address I will have signed up with.

I may or may not have broken a rule, but surely the fact that I'm now trying to do things correctly has to count for something?

To change contact info like address and RL Name you must submit a ticket.

It is advised that you do this, as this is the information they will use to verify your identity if they ever think your account has been compromised.

Basically, if they suspend your account for your own safety, for any reason, which they do frequently. And you used fake info to sign up, then you have lost your account forever.

So submit a ticket, everyone who reads this and is unsure.
