Hi - I need to buy a laptop which I want to run SL on. I can't afford a top spec new one and am looking at reconditioned Dell laptops, which have 2GHz processors, 2GB RAM and nvidia 6800 graphics. I know this meets the listed minimum spec for SL but is there anything else I should consider? Will it be noticably better with a higher spec graphics card? Thanks Chloe

That combo would most likely be quite playable with a few of the high end eye candy turned off. Yes a better graphics card would go further tho. Depends on your budget.
Also with a laptop try to use a physical ethernet cable to a router/modem. Trying to use a laptop on built in WiFi is one of the most common bottlenecks folks complain of.

HI! If it was me....give me my good XP Pro desktop computer/workstation with dual 19" wide screen monitors and i can build for hours non stop. I have tried to build on a laptop but the screen was small, hard to see and the touch pad was hard to manage. And for extended time online your going to have to plug it in anyhow. After about an hour on most laptops and the battery is toast. Could I live on 1 hour of SL per day? You gotta be kidding.
I have always reccomended to those that are buying new technology to buy the best you can because its obsolete as soon as you get it home and plug it in....oh and btw your gonna be using it for several years. Sure a laptop is all fancy smancy and it might make you look all hot and rich while sitting in your favorite wireless (can you say unsecured) capable coffee shop where you might spend 5 bucks on a cup of joe.
Not me I'm at my desk with a fifty-cent cup of instant with the island on one screen and photoshop on the other. ...but this is just me
