I bought some land that the ground is basic rock texture..the only way i know how to get grass is to make a flat sheet of plywood and place the texture on it then set it in place...Is there a better way and fast of doing this?

You have to own a private estate island to be able to control the ground texture.

The only way you can change the ground texture is if it's a private island and you own the whole island. Otherwise, grass prims like you describe appear to be the most common solution. (There are plenty of grass and ground textures in the Library folder of your inventory.)

Some people put out flower and grass particle rezzers to add a little more life to the flat green primscape, but such rezzers are frowned upon in some sims.
